“No, Brin Brin kiss it!”💋 As they emerge from infancy, toddlers find themselves in a whole new ballgame. Once dependent on others, they now have the language and emerging skill set to begin doing all sorts of things on their own. This often leads to a period of fierce independence around 18 months - in which many toddlers insist on doing EVERYTHING for themselves. This video has always been my favorite example. This little one has bumped her forehead. Mom offers a kiss to make it feel better, but our hero insists that she kiss herself. On her own forehead. 🤣 Isn’t this just the BEST?

We are extremely disappointed that the appointment of the Independent Autism Reviewer will remain unfilled until the restoration of devolution. This is another clear example of political failure impacting on the needs of the most vulnerable in Northern Ireland.

Fatherhood institute reviewed evidence about UK fathers and fatherhood in the first postnatal year The report explores who dads are; what they do, what influences this; what impact they have. They found NHS systems are not set up to engage with, assess and support new fathers.

When a child is struggling at school, often they are seen by professionals (like me!) who assess, write reports and make recommendations. As this process goes on, something strange happens. Here's what it is (with @_MissingTheMark) 1/

Every interaction on the neonatal unit matters. We need to provide individualised, relationship based care to promote optimal development. Think Sensory First talk, then touch, then move What we do matters

If everyone who has ever been grateful for the NHS followed and retweeted we would reach a million by midnight. We will all need the NHS at some point in our lives, so let's all come together to protect it.

Lots in the media this week on #Aphasia, including on @GMB today with @DrHilaryJones. The main intervention for people with aphasia is #speechandlanguagetherapy, which dramatically improves communication ability and quality of life--this is backed up by strong evidence. 1/

I just learned that the Māori word for autism is takiwatanga, ‘in his/her own time and space’. It’s such an empathic and gentle way to describe the condition I’m trying to come to terms with.

Why did none of the teachers at school ever tell me that a really important aspect of being a fully functioning adult is an ability to decide what’s for tea every single day for the rest of your life. I’m tired, Twitter. What’s on the menu tonight?
