🚩 At a stroke, the Government's changes to Statutory Sick Pay have increased the costs associated with sickness at work. An SSP rebate would give small employers the confidence to take on staff and drive growth, FSB's Craigie_b tells @TheTimes 👇 thetimes.com/business/compan…

⏰ It's positive to see @peterkyle acknowledge the importance of the landmark legislation to tackle late payments to small businesses - which is a direct result of FSB's campaigning. ⚠️ However, without urgent measures to tackle the significant cost pressures facing small firms, including recalculated business rates and higher energy bills, the 'pandemic-level' pressures holding back small business growth, highlighted in the Business and Trade Committee's small business report, will persist. ✅ We're glad to see the members of the Business and Trade @HoCcommitteesUK grasp the urgency of the situation. More in the Committee's release which references FSB's research 🔗 committees.parliament.uk/com…

The @ONS published its latest #NEET data today, the day of the Milburn report. It's worth a closer🧵 1/ The number of 16–24 year olds not in education, employment or training is now 1,012,000; up 55,000 in just 1 quarter - breaking the 1 million mark for the 1st time since 2013
Ministers cannot ignore the impact soaring employment costs are having on hiring 👷🏽‍♀️ We told the @guardian that costs are a major factor when it comes to the number of Neets – which is a shame, because small firms want to back the next generation 👇 theguardian.com/money/2026/m…

⏰ Today marks a big step forward in our campaign to stamp out poor payment practices by big businesses towards their smaller suppliers, with the Small Business Protections (Late Payments) Bill clearing its first Parliamentary hurdle. We know that some big businesses are trying to get the proposals watered down, which is why FSB is working to engage with MPs and Peers to deliver the toughest late payments legislation of any G7 country 👇 linkedin.com/pulse/governmen…

Rising #unemployment rates are not surprising given the raft of tax hikes SMEs face, along with nervous households tightening their belts. With around 15% of young people out of work - far more needs to be done to support our SMEs to have the confidence (& cash) to hire.

Whatever the outcome of today’s elections in #Norfolk & #Suffolk, we need our Councils firing on all cylinders to prioritise our #SMEs, making sure that all strategies & departments focus on the needs of local firms. No silos, no contradictory policies - a truly aligned approach.

🚂 For many small businesses, trading with EU markets is increasingly costly and complex. 💭 Fiona Forty, an FSB member and owner of Ingauge, a model railway servicing and repair specialist, told us about the difficulties of trading with the EU.

📦 OUT TODAY: FSB's new report, Ticket to Trade, shows that red tape, rising costs, and complex rules are making it harder for small firms to trade with EU markets 🚢 🚛 The report, which looks at how to make EU trade easier for small firms, found that over a third of small international traders expect to reduce or stop EU trade altogether if current rules don’t change. From farmers who are buckling under the rising costs of diesel to rural hotels dependent on oil, across the spectrum small businesses are experiencing an energy crisis. We need to see far-wider & immediate support from Government on energy costs for all #SMEs
Today’s energy announcement from the Government will only help a small number of SMEs in energy-intensive industries ⚡️ 🚩 But vast numbers of small businesses are being left high and dry in the face of an energy cost crisis, which comes on top of hikes to business rates and employment costs.
