Mitochondrial stress (GDF-15) is reduced in Parkinson's disease patients after psilocybin administration (Bradley et al.: jamanetwork.com/journals/jam…)
This supports our hypothesis that #psychedelics affect mitochondria (journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs…)
Important new study on the effect of LSD on brain hemodynamics; McCulloch (@D_E_McCulloch) et al.: nature.com/articles/s41593-0…
• Widespread CBF increase

Strong indication that we need to reinterpret past fMRI psychedelic neuroimaging studies...
How do protons move from respiratory complexes to ATP synthase? A new study (cell.com/biophysj/fulltext/S…) predicts that cardiolipin "functions as a highly efficient, quasi-two-dimensional nanoscale antenna that captures & rapidly channels protons directly to ATP synthase"
Changes in rotational (vortex-like) brain activity (spiral vorticity & spatial spiral vorticity dispersion) track the temporal unfolding of subjective intensity during the DMT experience (Sawicka et al., 2026, biorxiv.org/content/10.64898…)
A growth/differentiation factor-15 (GDF-15)-GDNF family receptor α-like (GFRAL) axis controls autoimmune T cell responses during neuroinflammation (Sonner et al., 2026, nature.com/articles/s41590-0…)
Example of immunoception (the brain’s bidirectional monitoring & control of immunity)
Energy constraint on human health (Behnke et al., 2026, cell.com/trends/endocrinolog…):
"The energy constraint model of human health provides an energy-based framework to address health/disease dynamics across the lifespan."
Baseline FDG-PET measures of brain glucose metabolism strongly predict 10-year cognitive decline & Alzheimer’s disease (Alhasan et al., 2026, sciencedirect.com/science/ar…).

A new study (Yang et al., 2026; biorxiv.org/content/10.64898…) reveals a quantum state inside living mitochondria:
Intact mitochondria seemingly act as optical microcavities, forming a 71 THz polaritonic state via light-matter coupling.
Linkt to ATP production.
@MitoPsychoBio
A few years ago (sciencedirect.com/science/ar…), I proposed that mitochondria utilize 2 physical energy transmission mechanisms: electrical/electrochemical & optical, with potential relevance for long-range intracellular & cell-to-cell signaling.
Replying to @FScholkmann @MitoPsychoBio
Interestingly, the famous 2004 work by Thar & Kühl (sciencedirect.com/science/ar…) shows that, in principle, there could be long-range interactions between individual mitochondria within the 300-800 nm wavelength range, treating mitochondria as single-mode optical waveguides.
There is a significant lipid depletion (ether lipids, plasmalogens & cholesteryl esters) at baseline & after exercise in ME/CFS.
(Christopoulos et al., 2026, ovid.com/jnls/acsm-msse/full…).
This points to delayed aerobic recovery & persistent metabolic dysfunction underlying PEM

Overturning decades of scientific consensus, new research reveals that the brain actually develops as 2 separate, parallel organs (the forebrain/midbrain & the hindbrain) originating from distinct progenitor cells (Jokhai et al., 2026, nature.com/articles/s41593-0…)
