There’s still time to register for our #PEOF virtual session on February 18, 2025 (14:30 - 16:30 CET). This discussion will bring together patients, nurses, and pathologists to explore how we can advance equitable access to precision oncology and strengthen patient-centered care.
We’ll hear from experts on the role of nurses and pathologists in bridging gaps between diagnostics, treatment, and patient engagement. The session will also highlight best practices and practical solutions to improve precision medicine delivery.
Hear from speakers: Nicola Fusco (Director, Division of Pathology, IEO Istituto Europeo di Oncologia); Silvija Piškorjanac (Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Medicine, University J.J. Strossmayer Osijek); Umberto Malapelle (Associate Professor Department of Public Health, Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II); Celia Diez de los Rios (Oncology Advanced Nurse Practitioner); Gloria Okwu (Program Coordinator, Project PINK BLUE, Patient Advocate); Catalina Lopez-Correa (Chief Scientific Officer, Genome Canada Breast Cancer Advocate & Genomics Expert)

Today is #WorldCancerDay, a global reminder that cancer care must be centered around the patients. Nurses and pathologists play a pivotal yet often under-recognized role in bridging the gaps between diagnostics, treatment, and patient engagement—especially in precision oncology.
Join us on February 18, 2025, for a Patient Engagement Open Forum virtual session focused on:
✅ Exploring the role of nurses and pathologists in the care pathway, and ways we can empower them to support patients more
✅ Identifying patient priorities in care delivery and what patient-centered care means in precision medicine.
✅ Sharing best practices & scalable solutions for strengthening patient-centered precision medicine delivery.

🤔 Advanced technology and medical data can be confusing for patients, their caregivers, and healthcare providers.
👉 Our newest study looked at how well patients and healthcare professionals talk about these complex tests and treatments and what areas need more research to improve communication in this field of personalized cancer care.
👉 Before diving into the paper, take a look at #patientstories, as they allow us to better understand the barriers to accessing targeted treatments, discover best practices, and see key differences between patient experiences in precision medicine: fromtestingtotargetedtreatme…

💡 In our community, a belief that keeps us together is that the future of healthcare is personalized, as well as the process of shared decision-making with patients.
This approach requires empowered HCPs who can confidently communicate complex biomarker testing (cBT) results to patients.
The challenge is that the complexities of comprehensive biomarker testing (cBT) demand advanced genomics knowledge and effective communication skills from HCPs.
In this context, medical societies can significantly impact patient care by:
✔Advocating for educational programs that equip HCPs with the knowledge and confidence to navigate cBT and its implications.
✔Integrating shared decision-making models into clinical practice, empowering patients to actively participate in treatment choices based on their cBT results.
