mostly good, but there were dangers. both from the wildlife and other companions.
" this whole city used to be controlled by sentinels. you were always being watched. "

that was a little embarrassing. she was probably cooped up too long in her apartment.
" what's it like out there ? outside the city ? "
" he was studying them, to make like a . . zurk-destroying gun, " she smiled, thinking of her friend.
" before the sun, we had a lot harder time trying to get all the way up here. "
another little laugh —— companions sure were more emotive than other droids.
" okay, maybe a little bit.
my friend doc put them in a little cage once and i couldn't stop looking. "
" i . . guess it's not really their fault. they're just going off their instinct. "
just animals. not like they knew any better.
" but they are dangerous, Omega. i wouldn't go near them. "
" uh - huh. those are zurks. "
her screen flashed with brief concern, but the fact the small human was still here now was obviously a good sign.
" they eat metal and other junk. companions, too, if you aren't careful.
but the sun got rid of a lot of them. "
" really ? do you guys not have companions ? "
their worlds were so incredibly different. she couldn't imagine what it'd be like to be Omega.
" i've only ever met other companions like me. there's no one else down here besides zurks. "
" i think so. a lot of people back home didn't think we could do it. "
it was a nice feeling to finally have done it.
" and i got to meet you 'cause of it, right ? never thought I'd meet a human one day. "
" well —— we opened up the city. "
she did miss her friends; some of them still had responsibilities they had to fulfill.
" not too long ago we couldn't see the sun down here. "
" sounds like a good thing you guys do. helping people. "
the companion made a noise that sounded like a small laugh, smiling on her screen.
" they sound kind of like my friends. "
" soldiers ? is there a war going on out there ? "
she thought aloud, glancing upwards for a moment.
" this whole city used to be closed underground. it was dangerous enough trying to get up here. my whole life has been spent down here, so . . you gotta fill me in. "
" ' course. i mean, i guess they'd be pretty obvious if they're humans like you, but . . "
she wasn't sure where to go with that, even as she sat down next to the small human. maybe it was just to make Omega feel better.
" i never had siblings. tell me what they're like. "
" okay ! "
she was a bit nervous, honestly —— it wasn't often there were guests, and she couldn't have even dreamed of meeting a human
" well —— do you want to sit down ? you can tell me about your brothers. "
it was probably better to go looking for anything that could be of use before she got too hungry, but it could wait a bit.
" all right, " she tapped her metal fingers together in thought. " i'll head out later. "
quickly she added,
" —— i'm not keeping you here,

another smile graces the companions screen, quietly closing the door behind her.
" make yourself at home. "
it was hers now, too —— for however long she'd be here. besides, clementine had plenty of room.
" humans eat food, right ? i need to go looking . . "
without the sentinels around, the area was significantly safer for everyone —— though she still hesitated to bring Omega into the public.
she'd have to think about this later.
" i live alone, " she answered. " —— sorry about the mess, by the way. "

clementine tried not to draw attention, and for the most part she was successful —— moving past crowds just fast enough for others to not take much notice.
not that it mattered much, as companions were likely to make a small noise in surprise before the two moved past them.
