NEW: It’s a familiar pattern: Trump announces a new policy on Truth Social. News alerts are sent out. Lawmakers issue statements. Furor ensues.
And then ... nothing.
In today’s newsletter, I investigate: how often do Trump policies announced on social media actually happen?

Extremists, shut off from social media, have increasingly turned to Infowars to reach a sympathetic audience. People who led the Proud Boys or Oath Keepers went on Infowars about 5 dozen times in two years, per transcripts compiled by @FactbaseFeed. wsj.com/articles/proud-boys-…

One more data point per @FactbaseFeed: From early 2019 thru election week 2020, Trump averaged roughly 40,000 spoken words per week. Biden just spoke about 64,000 words in a month. So there are fewer false claims per word, but also fewer claims period.

Biden has been quieter than Trump not only qualitatively but quantitatively. Per @FactbaseFeed, Biden spoke 34% fewer public post-inaugural words in his first month than Trump did in his first month. (And if you compare to more recent Trump months, the decline is much steeper.)

Got some data from @FactbaseFeed on what past presidents were doing in their last weeks in office. Other presidents were ... a little busier. washingtonpost.com/politics/…

Part of what makes this record-breaking stretch of silence from President Trump so disconcerting is that he went from 5 speeches a day...to just nothing. Thanks to @FactbaseFeed for visualizing it, and verifying that it is a record.

There was a small crowd due to limits on large gatherings meant to slow the spread of COVID. The Trump campaign said this about it yday: “Thanks to the free speech-stifling dictates of Gov. Tim Walz and Attorney General Keith Ellison, only the first 250 people will be admitted.”
New record for @realDonaldTrump. 21 minutes, 49 seconds in Rochester, MN. That's officially the shortest in-person campaign rally of his presidency.
