The outcome of this war is clear. Ukraine will accept a harsh peace, losing Crimea, giving up any NATO-aspirations, granting high autonomy to Donbas (or even losing it) and accepting Russian as second language. There will not be a military victory over a nuclear superpower.

This investigation of the failed back-channel attempt in 2022-2023 to reach a peaceful settlement on terms highly favorable to Ukraine exposes as flawed some of the “unquestioned truths” in the discussion of the war.
For example, the idea that Putin has been bluffing about nuclear strikes. Or that all negotiations and compromise proposals have been a sham, because Putin would never accept anything but Ukraine’s capitulation. Or “Russian imperialism” as the primary explanation of the war. In a weaker position after the painful setbacks of fall 2022, Putin drew his red lines, which are, surprise, surprise, Ukraine’s neutrality and Crimea. In 2025, at the peak of Russia’s accelerating advances, he was satisfied with the “Anchorage” terms, which are basically the Istanbul demands plus territory, used as a punishment and a means of pressing for their acceptance. They are still miles away from anything that could be called Ukraine’s capitulation, the elimination of its separate identity, the destruction of the independent Ukrainian state, and so on.
That these and similar dangerous and absurd ideas dominated the expert field is a sign of a deep intellectual crisis.
At one of the tensest points in Russia's invasion of Ukraine, two Americans teamed up with a former GDR spy to stop nuclear war. They just needed to tell Putin.

I confirm the 2023 peace-treaty plan that was leaked to the FT.
What the draft envisaged:
- Russia withdraws its troops from most of the four oblasts it had just declared “annexed.”
- The new line of demarcation runs roughly along the line as of February 24, 2022: Crimea and the part of Donbas that Russia controlled before the full-scale invasion.
- Ukraine recognizes Russian control over Crimea.
- Ukraine grants Russia an unobstructed land corridor to Crimea.
- The ceasefire regime is guaranteed by NATO countries that provide protection for Ukraine.
- Russia begins negotiations with the US on its own security guarantees.
From my side, I’ll add a few insider details that few people know about.
The plan was discussed NOT ONLY by Rodnyansky: the key figure was ABRAMOVICH.
Moreover, Russia was ready to give up the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant as well. And the 300 billion in frozen assets was to go toward rebuilding all of Ukraine, that is, together with the occupied territories.
As for Crimea: we were not required to recognize it as Russian, only to recognize Russia’s control over it. In other words, we acknowledge that right now it is under Russian control (which is how it is). We were also required to adopt a law banning the return of Crimea by military means.
The land corridor to Crimea, a highway and a railway, was to be built at Russia’s expense. The hardest question was how to guard it. That is why the Russians were ready to give up Melitopol, but not Tokmak: they feared we would cut the corridor with artillery.
Zelensky rejected this proposal at the time.

Former Verkhovna Rada deputy Vadim Novinsky was asked by Zelensky to negotiate with Russia. Zelensky initially agreed to restore Ukraine's neutrality and put an end to NATO expansion. However, Zelensky soon changed his mind and fell in line with NATO's position:
- “He came to enjoy being a hero. He enjoyed the standing ovations, the world’s attention focused on him. Just imagine: wherever he went, he was received like the Pope, he was a welcome guest everywhere. In the end, he traded the lives of Ukrainians for applause in the parliaments of other countries”

The New York Times is trying to sell us that there was a former "Non-Hawkish" Version of Bibi Netanjahu. A man who spew hate against Yitzhak Rabin until one of his Fanboys murdered him. The Man who financed Hamas to prevent a two state solution. Bonkers.

Headline: "3 in 5 Jewish students face antisemitism in schools" (Bell Review).
The actual numbers behind that claim:
• Total sample: 5,000+ students surveyed
• Jewish students in the sample: 92
• Answered the question: 70
• Personally experienced it: 29
To reach "3 in 5" (~59%), the review combined those 29 with ~12 who said they had only witnessed it (41/70).
That is why critics cite 29: a sweeping national headline and policy push rests on personal reports from fewer than 30 respondents in an unweighted self-selected sample.

States aspiring for hegemony will always claim to represent universal values and thus speak for all of mankind. States advocating for multipolarity will promotes sovereign equality by arguing for civilizational distinctiveness. When China argues that one civilization should not dictate to another how to develop, we should feel reassured that they have not chosen the hegemonic model of the US.
When I was 25 I could proudly state that while my society is not perfect, most of it is committed to universal rights and the idea to leave a better world for the coming generations. In the last 5 years, men, very few, very rich and powerful men, changed that completly.
I predicted in 2022, that if the Russian dictate of Istanbul (Loss of Crimea, No NATO, High Autonomy for Donbass, Russian official Language) is not accepted, Ukraine would lose a lot of men, the Donbass, free sea access and its industrial belt. Now this will sadly become reality.
