My dad finally visiting me in the US for the 1st time.He insisted on walking under the rain to see the hospital I’m training in & where I take classes. “Harvard” is only a big deal Bc my mom told him it is. In his eyes, Im already a big deal being the 1st doc in the fam. Full ❤️
A sad day in the UAE ID community.
Gone but not forgotten. Dr Nsutebu’s legacy will inspire generations of UAE ID physicians to come.

When I was an ID fellow, my late mentor @FranciscoMarty_ said that I would establish the 1st fungal reference lab in the UAE. I remember thinking— maybe someone else. But wouldn’t it be nice if it was me?
He’s not here to witness his vision coming true— but this is for him 🤍

We lost our mother last summer to #PancreaticCancer — there isn’t a day that goes by that we don’t remember her courage & resilience.
My sister is walking the @PanCAN purple stride in honor of our mother.
We appreciate your support in joining our fundraiser in her memory 💜 – at Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

We have been trying to get this published for months, after multiple rejections and “watering down” language, we finally got “ceasefire*” in an editorial in an academic journal warning against the threats of infectious diseases following the war* in #Gaza

Read EIDS editorial on #Gaza and the threats of Infectious diseases 👇🏼 published in post-graduate medical journal @UaeEma
“Gaza—ceasefire and prepare for a surge in infectious diseases!”

*knowing these terms will not even begin to capture the magnitude of the situation as described by numerous organizations like @MSF @WHO and @UN
It is unfortunate that the medical community witnesses what is unfolding & terms like “ceasefire” is still controversial – at Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

1/n Measles needs to be taken seriously. It is among the most contagious viruses we know of + unvaccinated child has a high risk of contracting it during an outbreak. In such case that child has 20% likelihood of hospitalization, and also risks deafness, pneumonia, encephalitis – at Houston, TX

“We did what we could. Remember us.”
These are words MSF Dr Mahmoud Abu Nujaila, who was killed in a hospital strike, wrote on a Gaza hospital whiteboard.
Four of our colleagues have been killed.
Many more have lost family members.

THREAD 🧵Did you know that Gaza is home to hundreds of artists, both men and women? It is literally the city with the highest number of artists relative to its population. In this thread, I will introduce you to dozens of them. These Gazans are unbreakable, sensitive, and amazing people - true embodiments of resilience.
