Finance Committees Near Finalisation of 2026 Revised Fiscal Framework

The @Fiscal_Comm_RSA says it notes and supports additional funding through the provincial equitable share to compensate for increased costs in health and education. The chairperson of the committee, Dr @MmusiMaimane says corruption and poor hospital management are among the critical challenges associated with medico-legal claims. Dr Maimane says claims and accruals recur each year, prompting @Treasury_RSA to allocate funds to address them. However, hospitals use their current budgets to settle the previous year's debts, perpetuating the same cycle year after year.
The Standing Committee on Finance together with the Select Committee on Finance holds a virtual joint meeting to get responses from the National Treasury and the South African Revenue Services @sarstax on the submissions received on the 2026 Revised Fiscal Framework and Revenue Proposals.

Dr @MmusiMaimane opens the meeting by stressing the importance of processing the MTBPS and the accompanying bills before the committees.
Dr Mapula Sekoatane from the PBO says the MTBPS priorities are in line with the 2026 budget and SONA. Priorities identified after SONA are also being funded over the MTF period. Government will strengthen high-impact primary healthcare interventions to improve maternal nutrition, support healthy pregnancies, and promote optimal child development during the first 1,000 days of life.
