In 1891, the PFD hired its first Black firefighter – Stephen Presco. Unlike Isaac Jacobs, Presco actually worked fighting fires. He was the only Black member of the department during his service. (1/2)

The first Black member of the Philadelphia Fire Department was Isaac Jacobs. He was hired at Engine 11 in 1886. While he was hired as a hoseman, he was relegated to tending the stables and taking care of the company’s horses. #BlackHistoryMonth #PFDBlackHistory

Incredible firefighting by our @PhillyFireDept members + response partners on this 3-Alarm fire in Chestnut Hill; 🔥 was contained to the original building & our fire marshals' investigation will start overnight. 1 injured firefighter transported by PFD medics will be OK.
