I contacted a local business to see if they wanted a new website. They said they would if they could. Their website is part of a corporate network.
They only work with large web design agencies. One day, one day Flecha will be like that
Every season brings a reason for updating your website.
- Different holiday hours
- Seasonal discounts or events
- Switching old photos for new ones
Any time there’s a reason to refresh your website, take advantage of it
Freelancers, what was the hardest part about getting your first client?
For me, it’s getting out of my comfort zone to approach people about how I can help them. I’m comfortable talking to people in general, but business adds pressure.
When all else fails in web design, remember that most people don’t notice a lot of things that would drive you crazy. Just like a chef who analyzes food, a dentist who looks at teeth, and dancer who analyzes @JackScarizzy ‘s dance moves.
What have I learned so far about contacting businesses about their website?
- Most owners are too busy to bother
worrying about their site
- Knowing as much about their
business before contacting is
imperative
- Listening is better than talking
Looking back on the effort needed to start a business, I don’t think I would have done it if I had known what it took. Pushing through hard times is inevitable to get going.
The only people who scroll down to see what you used to post are people who are trying to cancel you. In other words, only the scum of the earth do that. So post away. Experiment, try to be funny, be interesting. I tag @JackScarizzy a lot because he’s the man. Follow him for how to to be funny and interesting
I use Claude for coding, Gemini for discussing ideas, and Grok for making images. I wish I was like @JackScarizzy and AI asked ME for help
There is a direct correlation between how easy it is to find the right information and the conversion rate.
As a new business, giving work out for free seems like a good idea. You gain insights into what clients like and don’t like, you get testimonials, and you get experience.
But people act differently when their own money is on the line. Even a small fee matters
Weekends are when so many people discover a cool new local spot.
Shoutout to all the local business owners working this weekend!
