After the movie I can almost certainly confirm that the bolt action was used because stop motion animating one of the coyotes loading a flintlock is incredibly difficult and awkward when the props and figures were not necessarily articulated for it.

After binge watching C&Rsenal I saw the trailer for Wildwood I haven't read Wildwood, but whatever the coyote army's motivations are, I support them wholeheartedly.
