NOW: A climber in a hard hat scaled the Brooklyn Bridge's steel framework Wednesday afternoon and strung a giant "VOTE NATURE" banner above the traffic, an Extinction Rebellion action timed to the Nov. 3 election. "I don't have $46 billion to buy Twitter, so this is what I'm resorting to," the climber said from the bridge. His ask to voters: show up, and put nature at the top of the list when choosing candidates.

BREAKING: A 46-year-old motorist is dead after gunfire from another vehicle tore into his Volkswagen while he drove toward New Jersey across the GWB late Tuesday, the Daily News reported, citing officials and law enforcement sources. Investigators think the shot came near the West 179th Street on-ramp on the Manhattan end. Though wounded, he kept driving out onto the bridge until his car hit a median and came to rest, sources told the Daily News and NBC New York. Police sources told NBC they suspect road rage, and that one bullet appears to have punched through a rear window and the driver's headrest. The NYPD confirmed the man died at Englewood Medical Center, CBS News New York reported. He lived in Rockland County, according to the Daily News; NBC's sources said he was a Con Edison employee who was not on the clock. Authorities have not released his name. Port Authority police, who are leading the probe, have made no arrests and have not described the shooter. The Jersey-bound upper deck stayed shut for hours.

NEW: Agents in FBI vests and HSI, IRS, NYPD and state Medicaid investigator jackets converged on Happy Adult Day Care Center on Fort Hamilton Parkway in Borough Park, Brooklyn, on Tuesday, ABC7 and BoroPark24 reported, part of what officials called a months-long crackdown on suspected Medicaid fraud. Gov. Kathy Hochul said the joint state and federal investigation targeted more than 100 social adult day care providers. "We are targeting providers who we believe engaged in illegal activity, ranging from money laundering to kickbacks, to improper billing and other fraudulent activities," she said. The governor's office said the state Health Department, the Office of the Medicaid Inspector General and the attorney general's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit worked with HHS-OIG, the FBI and more than a dozen other partners. Agents also searched sites in Sunset Park, Flushing and on Staten Island, CBS News New York reported. An HSI spokeswoman told the New York Post the agency was carrying out a "court-authorized law enforcement action." No charges connected to Tuesday's searches had been announced, and authorities have not publicly identified all of the businesses targeted. A person who answered the phone at the Borough Park location told CBS News New York he had no comment.

BREAKING: BRICKS through the window, doors smashed, "Pal Action" and "Drop Elbit" sprayed in red. A Capital One branch on Manhattan's Upper East Side was trashed before opening Monday. Glass was spread across the East 86th Street sidewalk near Second Avenue, and crews boarded up the damage as NYPD officers stood guard. The graffiti targets Israeli weapons maker Elbit Systems. Prism reported in January that Capital One was one of six banks behind a $545 million line of credit to Elbit, which sparked a national "Eject Elbit" protest campaign against the bank. Police are investigating it as criminal mischief and a possible bias incident. City Council Speaker Julie Menin called the damage "deeply disturbing and unacceptable" and urged police to look into whether it was an antisemitic hate crime. "There is no place for hate, intimidation or violence in New York City," she said. Video: Ken Lopez | Licensing @FreedomNTV [email protected]
