Developer: "There is no guidance or legislation which sets out that Permitted Development rights cannot be used in areas of irreplaceable habitats". @SteveReedMP @EmmaforWycombe @TonyJuniper how absolutely ridiculous! Please can this be addressed as a matter of acute urgency!

We hope the Budget tomorrow will mark a shift away from expensive road expansion where the case is weak, towards a transport system that offers better value for taxpayers, more choice for communities and a more sustainable future.

The government released its Green Belt statistics for the year, which showed an ongoing slight decline...
BUT this is a complete fallacy, as all the so-called 'grey belt' sites (thousands and thousands of acres) are still being counted as Green Belt - even though permissions are being granted!
This is truly misleading @mtpennycook @AngelaRayner @mhclg

Replying to @Katie_Lam_MP
It wasn't the councillors who blocked the application.
Material planning objections were lodged by the council's own highways and ecology departments, and the national highways authority.
Traffic was the critical issue, not the poor bats, who always seem to get the blame.

'Buy your own' patch could be the way forward for residents across Britain to protect land from developers, aided by technology. An innovative model for funding and community participation.

These grazing marshes have been sold to a London investment co and theyβve evicted the farmers who graze their cattle and the gamekeeper and marsh man whoβs worked there for years . Corporate wildfowling for rich city boys now.

The new 'grey belt' land designation & its application in the planning process is fast becoming a real threat to our countryside across England.

But it's much worse than this, as "grey belt" is still listed under green belt in the governmentβs statistics.
The total area of land designated as green belt in England fell last year for the third year running, shrinking by 480 hectares in 2025/26, according to new government statistics.

I'm chairing the APPG for Council & Social Housingβs Inquiry.
Claiming trashing local democracy or nature will build council homes is magical thinking.
We're talking about funding, local authority powers, skills, workforce and the literal bricks needed to build at scale.

Trafford Residents, please sign & share our petition requesting that Trafford considers the alternative option for the Carrington Relief Road, it will be less expensive, less harmful & more beneficial for residents but Trafford is refusing to consider it!

It is vital @NorfolkCC considers non-road alternatives to the Norwich Western Link. A new road in the Wensum Valley would increase toxic runoff into the Wensum, one of the main sources of pollution.

Sadly Trafford Council wants to totally destroy our 335 hectare peat moss, which @NaturalEngland considers a restorable irreplaceable habitat! The landowner says they will developer their entire landholdings, facilitated by the gov's Grey Belt designation!
Good Defra decision: Β£25m for peatland restoration. Restoring these brilliant habitats helps prevent climate change and defends against flood & fire.
This positive approach to Critical Natural Infrastructure should be scaled up in the PM's 10-year plan.
