15 years from yesterday, a devastating earthquake struck Van, Turkey. On October 23, 2011, a magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck eastern Turkey, killing 604 people, injuring thousands and leaving approximately 60,000 people homeless. As freezing temperatures arrived, families were forced to survive in tents and temporary shelters, many without reliable heating or electricity. Fuel Relief Fund deployed to Van, Turkey, distributing more than 28,000 kilograms of coal to help earthquake survivors stay warm. Our volunteers worked directly in affected neighborhoods, providing heating fuel to families, elderly residents and vulnerable individuals struggling through the bitter cold. Working alongside local partners, our team helped bring warmth to households facing an uncertain winter. For many families, access to heating fuel meant being able to remain warm in their homes or shelters while focusing on recovery and rebuilding. Today, we remember the lives lost, the families displaced and the communities forever changed by the Van earthquake. We also recognize the volunteers, local partners and donors who made this humanitarian response possible. Eight years ago today, Hurricane Michael devastated Florida’s Gulf Coast. On October 10, 2018, Hurricane Michael made landfall near Mexico Beach, Florida, as a catastrophic Category 5 hurricane with sustained winds of 160 mph. It was the strongest hurricane on record to strike the Florida Panhandle. The storm destroyed homes, businesses and critical infrastructure, leaving communities facing widespread power outages, damaged roads and major disruptions to essential services. Fuel Relief Fund deployed in response to Hurricane Michael, distributing more than 8,500 gallons of free emergency fuel to support disaster relief and recovery efforts in Florida. Our mission was to help address critical fuel shortages affecting disaster survivors and emergency response operations when communities needed assistance most. Fuel access was especially important for powering generators, supporting emergency transportation and helping families maintain basic necessities while electricity and other services were disrupted. Today, we remember the lives lost, the families whose homes and communities were devastated, and the first responders, volunteers and humanitarian organizations who worked tirelessly to help the Florida Panhandle recover. Eight years later, Fuel Relief Fund remains committed to the same mission: reducing human suffering by providing critical fuel assistance when disaster strikes. When the power goes out, fuel becomes a lifeline. ⛑️Help FRF by sharing our story, or donating, today. fuelrelieffund.org/donate #disasterrelief #volunteer #emergencyresponse #hurricane #fuelsaveslives

Two years ago, Hurricane Milton devastated communities across Florida. On October 9, 2024, Hurricane Milton made landfall near Siesta Key, Florida, as a powerful Category 3 hurricane with sustained winds of 120 mph. The storm brought destructive winds, severe flooding, tornadoes and widespread power outages, leaving millions of residents facing difficult conditions. In response, Fuel Relief Fund deployed to Florida to provide free emergency fuel assistance to communities affected by the disaster. During the Hurricane Milton response, FRF distributed more than 29,500 gallons of fuel, providing a critical resource as families worked to recover from the storm. Combined with our response to Hurricane Helene just weeks earlier, Fuel Relief Fund distributed more than 86,000 gallons of fuel, benefiting over 8,600 families across the affected region. Our volunteers worked to help communities regain access to essential fuel supplies during a time when damaged infrastructure and widespread power outages made everyday necessities difficult to obtain. Today, we remember those who lost their lives, the families whose homes and communities were affected, and the first responders, volunteers and humanitarian organizations who worked tirelessly throughout the recovery. When the power goes out, fuel becomes a lifeline. ⛑️Help FRF by sharing our story, or donating, today. fuelrelieffund.org/donate #disasterrelief #volunteer #emergencyresponse #hurricane #fuelsaveslives

Ten years ago today, Hurricane Matthew devastated Haiti. On October 4, 2016, Hurricane Matthew made landfall near Les Anglais on Haiti’s southwestern peninsula as a powerful Category 4 hurricane with winds of approximately 145 mph. The storm destroyed homes, roads and critical infrastructure, isolated communities and created an enormous humanitarian emergency. Fuel Relief Fund deployed to Haiti, concentrating relief efforts in Jérémie and other heavily impacted communities. FRF provided free emergency fuel to affected families, community institutions and humanitarian organizations, helping power medical clinics, orphanages, generators and relief vehicles needed to deliver medical care, food, clean water, shelter and other essential services. During the deployment, Fuel Relief Fund distributed more than 12,500 gallons of fuel, with the response designed to provide critical support benefiting approximately 50,000 people. Today, we remember the hundreds of lives lost, the families and communities forever changed by Hurricane Matthew, and the Haitian residents, first responders and humanitarian organizations who worked through extraordinarily difficult conditions to help their communities recover. When disaster shuts down critical infrastructure, fuel becomes a lifeline. ⛑️Help FRF by sharing our story, or donating, today. fuelrelieffund.org/donate #disasterrelief #volunteer #emergencyresponse #hurricane #fuelsaveslives

21 years ago today, Hurricane Rita made landfall along the Texas-Louisiana Gulf Coast. On September 24, 2005, Hurricane Rita came ashore as a powerful Category 3 hurricane after reaching Category 5 strength over the Gulf of Mexico. The storm devastated Gulf Coast communities and caused widespread damage and disruption to power, transportation, fuel supplies, and other critical infrastructure. Fuel Relief Fund deployed in response to Hurricane Rita with a 9,000-gallon tanker, providing free emergency fuel to communities affected by the storm. Rita was one of Fuel Relief Fund’s earliest disaster responses and helped establish the mission we continue today: getting fuel where it is needed most when traditional fuel infrastructure has been disrupted. Today, we remember the communities affected by Hurricane Rita and the first responders, volunteers, and organizations who worked to help the Gulf Coast recover. When disaster strikes, fuel can be a lifeline. Being able to show up in remote areas like this, alongside people working tirelessly to support their communities, is exactly why Fuel Relief Fund exists. With roads destroyed and mountain communities cut off, motorcycles are more than transportation. They are lifelines, carrying fuel and critical supplies to families in places larger vehicles cannot reach. Fuel creates movement. Movement creates access. And access makes relief possible. Fuel Relief Fund made a second trip into Nepal’s Rasuwa District to distribute free fuel to local motorcyclists, helping them reach communities impacted by the devastating floods. In this mountainous region, motorcycles are essential for carrying fuel and critical supplies to families in areas that larger vehicles cannot access. Our team was also honored to receive the official regimental headgear of the Nepal Army unit operating in Rasuwa—a meaningful tradition representing more than 200 years of history. We are incredibly grateful for their recognition and support. Donate today to help Fuel Relief Fund continue delivering the fuel that keeps disaster relief moving and reaches communities in need. This is what delivering fuel in some of Nepal’s most remote areas looks like. Each barrel of gasoline and diesel must be carefully prepared and transported across difficult terrain to reach communities cut off by the floods. It is challenging work, but every barrel helps keep relief vehicles moving, generators operating and critical aid reaching families in need. Your donation helps deliver critical fuel where it is needed most—give today and help power Nepal’s recovery. Moments like this remind us why fuel matters. During our Nepal Deployment, Fuel Relief Fund delivered 250 liters of urgently needed diesel to Trishuli Hospital—the only hospital serving this valley. The fuel helped keep critical services operating at the hospital. We were deeply honored to receive a letter of appreciation and a special token of recognition from the hospital and local community. We are grateful for their kindness and proud of our incredible team for reaching those who needed us most. Donate today and help us continue delivering lifesaving fuel to those who need it most.
