If this thing plays out similarly to last lockout off-season, I'd actually expect the Cubs to be fairly aggressive in November. There was a massive run on talent pre-lockout last time around and Cubs will need to be in on that given the simple volume of their needs.
History says the Cubs may not be overly aggressive prior to the lockout, much as we might want them to be. bleachernation.com/cubs/2026…

Reminder that the latest MLBPA proposal included a minimum salary that was 50% higher than the one proposed by the owners
There is this misconception that I am against the players and I am for the owners in the next CBA negotiations.. I am actually FOR the 95% of players that DO NOT get represented well enough by the MLBPA. Yes, I know the owners are basically only wanting a Cap because it will help increase their profits, but it will also help the mid-tier players more and the small market fan base WAY MORE because it will create more income for those guys and a more competitive balance in the league.

My takeaway here is that Jared Banner definitely reads my tweets
Jared Banner said he had a role he wasn’t necessarily looking to leave, but upon meeting with Baltimore’s execs, he was convinced of the Orioles. Added: “In baseball circles, which is a long way from Twitter, we know Mike [Elias] is one of the most talented executives”

I’ve asked this before but is there any historical event that is like the Opposite of 9/11. Like something so good that happened that it changed the world forever

They’re doing nothing well. Can’t hit. Mediocre rotation. Bad bullpen. Bad baserunning. Bad defense. 80-win team in the NL.

MLB literally admits that a salary cap wouldn’t change the thing they claim to be standing up for on behalf of “fans” (outcome based competitive balance) 😂😂😂

I just don’t understand small market baseball team fans, like Pittsburgh or Miami or wherever, that are for and approve of and are often even rooting for the likely upcoming ownership lockout! It’s like being a lifelong fan of a restaurant whose owner refuses to buy any ingredients, keeps the kitchen staff on minimum wage, and serves the same frozen meal every night, then passionately arguing that the chefs are the reason the place is empty and that a “cap on what chefs can earn” is the only thing that will save restaurants. The Pirates haven’t tried to win. That’s not a labor issue. That’s an ownership choice. Seems to me the anger is pointed in the wrong direction!

Bob Nutting is worth a billion dollars
Scott Boras is main culprit on why their will be a lockout this offseason. His horrific contracts have destroyed baseball. The Top 1% of players and Scott Boras do NOT actually care about everyone else in the league. They only care about themselves. Don't let MLBPA pretend like they care about guys like Nick Gonzales or Jake Mangum because they don't. They only care about the Juan Sotos and the Bryce Harpers. If they actually cared about every player, they would be in favor of a salary cap/floor.

Valued at over $16 BILLION and still have the nerve to beg for a salary cap…
Yes, the Yankees received $2.6 billion from a private equity company for, essentially, 16 percent of the team, according to a league source. No, the Steinbrenners don't have plans to sell their majority stake, owner Hal said today. READ (for free): nytimes.com/athletic/7711799…

Because they didn’t bring back the worst manager in baseball? (Who was NOT under contract, BTW)

Sato is the big name from Japan this off-season, but I actually don't think the Cubs will be overly involved here for a couple reasons. 1) More $ needed for pitching than position players 2) Sato's profile of high whiff and lots of chase doesn't really fit profile Cubs like.

Happy for Jared and also excited that the Cubs get to add a new voice on the scouting and player dev side.
News: The Baltimore Orioles are hiring Jared Banner as general manager, sources tell ESPN. Banner, who was an assistant GM with the Cubs, joins Mike Elias in Baltimore’s leadership after nearly two decades working a range of executive jobs with the Cubs, Mets and Red Sox.

This is a good illustration of the dangers of percentile chart based analysis (which I’m guilty of too). Schwarber ran a 70.2% contact rate, which is fairly normal for elite sluggers. Muni’s was 60.2%, which is 4th worst in the last 10 years, in Gallo/Hiura/Sano territory.
Mune and Schwarber aren’t very different. Yet there are still sox fans out there that don’t think we should extend him
