As @FullerProject highlights, the gendered problems of the Seasonal Worker Scheme aren't just about the individual instances of exploitation and abuse.
The government doesn't even publicise data on how many women are on the scheme. So how can we know how far the problem goes?
For decades, UK farms have relied on #migrantworkers. But just how many of them are women?
No one knows because the UK government doesn't publish any data, nor does it seem to be tracking the experiences of these workers in an industry that often exploits them.

There is one thing that unarguably boosts a nation’s population, even when birth rates slump: immigration. Yet, curtailing immigration is a centerpiece of Trump’s agenda. Co-published with @FullerProject. foreignpolicy.com/2025/07/11…

At the International Journalism Festival (#IJF25) panel on Best Practices in Reporting Gender-Related Crimes, @ElizaTalks, Editor-in-Chief of @FullerProject , called on the media to do better when covering stories of sexual and gender-based violence.
She reminded us:
“Lived experience is a form of expertise. Therefore survivors of #SGBV can speak about their experience and offer solutions.”
“Journalists cover stories and then leave, unaware of the impact of an interview on the survivors of #SGBV. It’s important to recognise the need for further support.”
“A common mistake I’ve noticed in the media, especially international media houses, is they will interview a survivor based in the global south and have an expert voice from the global north. We ought to remember if a story is based in the global south, so are experts, and they should be given an opportunity to speak.”
Urging the media to adopt a blueprint for more ethical, inclusive, and justice-oriented storytelling.
