New post! At the risk of being completely obscure, I could say that it's about being about. Which is true, but it's also me telling a cracking good story which would make a first-rate film. furtheroralternatively.blogs…

Sometimes the questions asked on this site are really tricky. But sometimes they're not.
An ultra feminine lingerie brand that discovers the next generation of most beautiful models in the world? Is that something people would be interested in?

Just wondering whether Tutankhamun, the boy king, was Gillick-competent to give informed consent. I just hope we find an inscription from his mum signing off on everything.

I've been to Renoir & Love at the National Gallery, hence the weather-appropriate picture. I have 3 observations. 1) Lovely. Only a poseur would deny that Renoir is charming. 2) Busy. So many people. Too many. 3) Renoir should stick to ladies wearing clothes and avoid the nudes.

Here's a bonus for you. Just next to The Ambassadors is this, Moroni's La Dama in Rosso. Pretty cool, eh? (Not the Angel Moroni, but presumably another member of that distinguished family.)

This might be true of Facebook or Instagram but it's absolutely not true of X. An impartial observer would look at very few of our accounts and think, "Yep. This person is doing fine."

Ah, the joys of LinkedIn. "Someone from Wiltshire" has looked me up. Real "Person from Porlock" vibes (wrong county, I know).

High speed internet for rural homes? This is the train to, um, Richmond. (Richmond zone 4. Not Richmond in Yorkshire.)

I was today years old when I found out that Suetonius, the inventor of suet, was also a famous historian. Why don't they teach these things in school?

"You don't have to call it rape to get mad at it." @helenlewis expresses much of what I feel about The Cornell 7 case. See also this on the differences between the sexes, often conveniently forgotten in commentary on incidents like this. See next tweet for gift link. 1/2

Yawn. Here we go again
The tedious 'Englishness is an ethnicity' discourse has surfaced again. Sigh. Well, here is the definitive thread on what we're talking about and why it's tricky. It even mentions the butler from the Fresh Prince of Bel Air, so it's pretty comprehensive.
