Could you ask @johnfinucane if he understands irony and if the family of Robert McCartney deserve “truth and justice”

No, we don't love Lula. We do however celebrate his defeat of Bolsonaro - also a supporter of Putin (which you seem to want to ignore) and of Trump, ie Ukraine's worst enemies.

We celebrate Lula's re-election not because Lula is a friend of Ukraine - he clearly isn't - but as a victory against the far right, against authoritarianism and against Trump. Sending warm greetings to left-wing and labour movement forces in Brazil that have stood with Ukraine

"Desmond (Dessie) Grew PIRA was the main suspect identified by German authorities for the shooting of six-month-old Nivruti Islania and her father, RAF Corporal Maheshkumar "Mick" Islania, in October 1989 near RAF Wildenrath, West Germany. Grew was killed by undercover Special Air Service soldiers in County Armagh in 1990 along with fellow PIRA terrorist, Martin McCaughey who was also a Sinn Féin councillor."
#OnThisDay in 1989 the IRA murdered Nivruti Islania, 0. 6 months old shot with RAF father in Wildenrath, West Germany. Family were outside snack bar attached to a petrol station when 2 IRA fired on car. Mother wouldn’t leave. “She was in the car clutching the little child.” #OTD

So many things revealed in this great programme that many of us were unaware of. Clearly a massive coverup, but not by Sinn Fein, @GerryKellyMLA @AlexMaskeySF APPARENTLY! I did not hear too much about “doing the right thing”! Maybe we will hear from @DeirdreHargey in part 2

This is our favourite Soviet joke. 👇 The 1991 Soviet referendum was very deliberately very badly worded as basically: - “Yes, I consider it necessary to keep a reformed USSR that *will* provide freedoms and rights for all nations” OR - “No, I consider it necessary to keep the USSR as it is right now”. 😂 In the Soviet Union, you were often genuinely free to vote for any given option …because the Soviet Union only gave pro-Soviet options. The ‘yes’ vote that people pretend was to “save the Soviet Union” was the vote in favour of reforms and therefore arguably the closest thing to an anti-status quo vote. It was an offer written in the future tense about new rights and freedoms, hence why a lot of anti-Soviet people voted yes, if they voted at all. Despite Soviet occupation, the Baltic countries made sure to boycott this whole nonsense. The referendum question was also altered in some places where it wasn’t boycotted, adding even more confusion to what everyone was meant to be voting on. Most notably, in Ukraine an additional question on Ukrainian sovereignty was added and that passed by a much higher percentage. Later that same year, Ukrainians held a clear unambiguous referendum on full independence and that passed with over 90% in favour nationally and majority support in every Ukrainian region - including, for example, the Ukrainian region of Crimea, the Ukrainian region of Donetsk, the Ukrainian region of Luhansk, the Ukrainian region of Kherson, and the Ukrainian region of Zaporizhzhia. Thank you @wostokrobert for reminding us all of this. 😘

As a lesbian… I kind of agree with the NhS on this. IVF is meant to be for couples experiencing infertility. Not to enable unions that cannot produce offspring to suddenly do so. I wouldn’t expect the taxpayer to fund my pregnancy…

Awk it's only momentarily blind and deaf Deirdre giving cover to the IRA by statement before the IRA eventually admitted to the murder of ROBERT MCCARTNEY. Nobody believes your solicitor fed lies.

Sinn Fein MLA Deirdre Hargey was there and refused to assist the investigation. She was one of 71 witnesses who claimed to be in the toilet for the entirity of the murder and the subsequent forensic clean up. No one was permitted to leave the bar until it was done.

Truth is JK Rowling will be remembered as a writer, a philanthropist and as a woman who put her popularity at risk to defend women and girls and our rights when it wasn't easy. And despite the mountain of rape and death threats she didn't cowered away.
#HarryPotter author J.K. Rowling is the subject of an upcoming BBC docuseries. It will trace her “dramatic rise, cultural influence and contested legacy, using her life as a lens through which to explore three decades of profound social, political and technological change.” variety.com/2026/tv/global/j…

Terry, that's simply historically incorrect. Universal suffrage in local elections was introduced in 1969, the B-Specials abolished in 1970, housing allocation removed from local councils in 1971, and gerrymandered local government structures replaced by 1973. The Fair Employment Acts of 1976 and 1989 addressed religious and political discrimination decades before the Good Friday Agreement. The Agreement undoubtedly strengthened equality protections, particularly through Section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act, but it didn't introduce civil rights or end institutionalised discrimination overnight. Those reforms had been progressing for nearly 30 years. You're conflating the resolution of constitutional conflict with the introduction of civil rights. They're not the same thing. Acknowledging the very real injustices that existed doesn't require us to rewrite history to retrospectively justify three decades of terrorism. I won't end my reply with, "You're welcome", because Jesus Christ, grow up.
Except they weren't until the Good Friday Agreement . You're welcome

If you add up Manchester City's spending to 2024-25, when the latest figures are available, you find will find they have spent £6.9billion since their 2008 takeover. That is almost double the spending at Tottenham, £2bn ahead of Arsenal, £1.5bn more than Liverpool, £730m more than United and even £481m more than Chelsea who, since their BlueCo takeover in May 2022, have spent a staggering amount on transfers. 📝 @CWeatherspoon_ nyti.ms/4idyYDv

Terry, no one doubts or refutes the fact that Northern Ireland was an inequitable place and that institutional discrimination existed. But the exact issues you identify were largely resolved either before the conflict started or within the first year or two of the conflict. Universal adult suffrage for local elections was agreed in April 1969 (before the troubles started) and enacted that November. The B-Specials were disbanded in 1970. Public housing was removed from local political control and placed under the Northern Ireland Housing Executive in 1971, with a needs-based points system. It's also worth looking at how housing discrimination existed in Nationalist dominated councils as well. Local government boundaries and structures were reformed by 1973, ending previous gerrymandering. Stormont was suspended in 1972. The simple fact is, that of the over 1,700 people murdered by the IRA about 90% were murdered after those genuine issues were resolved. The cause of equality and rights was never the justification, it was the exploited pretext for their own campaign of anti-democratic terror all for them to eventually accept the existence of Northern Ireland, to accept the right of self-determination for the majority, and to accept a role in governing and leading a state they tried to destroy. Thousands of people dead, families destroyed, cities and towns (including your own) devastated, generations traumatised, for absolutely nothing. Violence was never the answer.
No bombings, no troubles if in 1968 Northern Ireland had just aligned withbthe same laws and rules as England Scotland and Wales . Ie one man one vote, no gerrymandering, council housing on a pounts system , no paramilitary thugs ie B Specials .
