The AI bugs out pretty often in Gears E-Day's campaign. I know Gears of War games being janky is business as usual but it's a bit bothersome.
Cortana: I'm gonna die... it's so over...
Chief: You're going to be fine.
Cortana: No it's not going to be fine!!
Repeat 4 or 5 times throughout until the end. Also the Didact occasionally shows up and monologues about Something. That's the story. People just find the ending sad.
This was used to hype up Bulletstorm, and it worked on me because I was getting fatigued with the 7th gen FPS formula at that time. However, the actual game sucked and pissed me the hell off. They put on the song & dance of "we're not like those other boring FPS games!"
The whole thing about getting points based on how creative your kills are is neat and all, but fundamentally the core game is just the worst of the run-of-the-mill-7th-gen-FPS crap. It probably doesn't deserve this much scorn, but I got bait & switched by it and felt like a prank
The best, actually! Metroid Prime 2 rocks. We need more weird, unconventional boss fights. This is the series that gave us the Mother Brain encounter, after all! Strange how it's like the only game that *really* pushes for incorporating the morph ball into boss encounters.
Actually way more games should be getting 4/10's instead of giving everything a 7-8 because "well the graphics are good and it's not buggy!" This is almost certainly a component of why AAA games got to where they are now.
The way people talk about Ocarina of Time nowadays has me thinking maybe people don't actually like exploration, adventuring, or puzzles.
I know this post is bait, but Morrowind keeps on being a fascinating example of a lot of peoples strange inability to abstract the interactions and points of engagement in a game from its audiovisuals. Like, "How can the game be fun to play if it isn't fun to watch?"
Metroid Ravenous looks very much like Dread 2, for better or for worse. Kinda doubling down on things I really didn't care for like the counter and overdone epic cinematic sequences. Really don't care for Samus yapping this much, just sounds bad and isn't a direction I like.
I hope that the shticks of this game is actually an important part of the games design and they lean into it. The EMMI's and Aether powers sucked because they were underdeveloped and felt tacked on. Same problem Prime 3 suffered from with Hypermode and the Ship mechanics.
I thought this whole Xbox Disc-to-Digital thing was a hugely overblown QoL feature until I realized maybe you can play physical games on a Series S if you still have an Xbox One to use its disk drive? That seems pretty huge.
Guy who complains that NES games are too time-consuming to beat while also bemoaning new modern releases for being "only" 10 hours long.
Nevermind that those things weren't there for the games original Japan release, most people wouldn't have access to them anyway. I feel as if this broadstroke notion of guides being mandatory for NES games is just a coping mechanism to rationalize not making an earnest effort.
Like, it's Metroid and Zelda. It's not some 50 hour CRPG with hyper-specific, unspecified goals and dozens of ways to actually hardblock your progress. Even if you absolutely *brute-force* these games you'll only spend.. maybe 15-20 hours if that? Drawing your own map is easy too
