🔍 Excited to share our latest research publication, and first registered report with open data, code and materials led by @agwarman, where we investigated whether there is a lower visual field advantage in object affordances! 📝(1/7) @UEAPsychology @GL_Malcolm @StephanieRossit

You'd think remembering art is subjective, but in a new paper in @PNASNews, @trentdavis01 and I build a model that can predict naturalistic memory for art from the image (at @artinstitutechi!). We can even predict fame-what lasts in memory across people. pnas.org/eprint/CGKNAMBKTC2X…

ALT "Rack Picture for Dr. Nones," by William A. Mitchell at the Art Institute of Chicago. The neural network ResMem predicts it will be highly memorable (predicting 82.5% of people will remember it). Indeed, in an online memory experiment, 80.5% of people remembered it, and in a free exploration visit of people to the exhibit itself, 78.9% of people remembered it.

#JNeurosci: @FiblaLaia, @samhforbes, @DeltaSpencer et al. @uniofeastanglia show that 30-month-old toddlers who heard more adult language input had more myelin in language-related brain areas, likely supporting more sophisticated language processing.

Pareidolia explained in less than 5 minutes!
Really enjoyed collaborating with the @TED_ED team on creating this short animated video explaining why we see faces in objects (face #pareidolia).

'What did you expect?'
New research by Drs Dominic McLean, @ANuthmann, @RenoultLouis and @GL_Malcolm in JEP:General show that our expectations directly affect how we visually process and make sense of scenes.

Check out our latest paper! We find that OPA represents visual information about walking, not crawling, despite us having once navigated from a crawling "perspective"!

This morning my 9-year-old asked,
'If you're invisible and close your eyes, can you see through your eyelids?'
This evening, I still don't know how to answer.
