One of at least 12 Chinese Long-tailed Rosefinches (Uragus sibiricus lepidus 长尾雀 Cháng wěi què) at Lingshan on Monday. This one is a male. A small population breeds at this site, with more records in winter.

Waking up feeling utterly devastated - for the future of our climate, for equality, for women’s health and so much more. Take the day to feel it, but remember to go outside into nature. Tomorrow’s another day, and the fight for what’s right will continue 💚

One of the last birds seen on this Oman trip also happens to be one of the best. Part of a flock of 7 beautiful elegant Caspian plovers. Check out how long the tertials are on the flight shot!

A lot of birds migrating tonight! Many will be killed. I recall a few years ago taking my kids to a local fireworks display and a Robin dropped dead onto the car next to ours.🙁

Latest watercolour. A Short-eared Owl (Asio flammeus 短耳鸮 Duǎn ěr xiāo) at dusk. A passage migrant and winter visitor to Beijing, preferring open grassland and scrub, where it hunts for small rodents.

Could this 'report' be any more tenuous if it tried?!? 😂 They may as well have added 'seen through the bottom of a jam jar through bifocal glasses with a bit of piss on them' to complete the picture....😂🤷🏼‍♂️

Amazing to see GPS reveal the journeys of Bewick's 014T (Kai) @bewickiiontour. For the 3rd year in a row he made an incredible spring detour, crossing the Urals. Each year the detour was bigger, this year's highlight being a 10d stay in the Turgay lowlands of Kazakhstan, ...

A Daurian Shrike was a totally unexpected bird to see up in north Dorset at Gillingham today. It put on a great show for the gathered photographers.

A mega has fallen! Newfoundland birders (including me) have been enjoying a very rare BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER this weekend. Second provincial record of this vagrant from waaaaay over on the other side of the continent. #BirdTheRock #BirdsNL #KowaOptics #ABArare

Believe it or not this is a very extreme aberration of a Yellow-browed Warbler I saw on Shetland. It is a xanthochroistic form. Never seen one like this before, a real beauty, congrats to the finder. Up there with bird of the trip. @ShetlandWild @RareBirdAlertUK @BirdGuides

Fabulous views of the Pallid Harrier at Dowrog Common yesterday afternoon. What a gorgeous bird. Plenty of other raptor action with Merlin, Hen Harrier, Goshawk (probable), Peregrine, Red Kite, Buzzard, Kestrel and Sparrowhawk.

This is the sort of place your helium birthday balloons end up when you let them go, or worse still, in the oceans where there's a good chance they'll end up in the belly of a whale, a turtle or a seabird. Dispose of them responsibly, please! 🙏 @N_T_S @mcsuk
