HIJACKING SYNDICATE DISMANTLED | TWO SUSPECTS ARRESTED
A coordinated law enforcement operation has resulted in the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of a hijacked vehicle in Alexandra, following intelligence linking a group of suspects to vehicle hijackings in and around Gauteng’s northern suburbs.
The operation involved the SAPS Investigation of Violent and Organised Crime Unit, SAPS Gauteng Tactical Response Team (TRT), Gauteng Traffic Police Airwing, CAP Specialised Operations and Tracker Connect.
Acting on information received about the suspected hijacking syndicate, the teams gathered further intelligence and identified vehicles believed to be linked to the suspects. An operational plan was executed in the Alexandra area, leading to the arrests and the recovery of a hijacked vehicle.
During the operation, law enforcement teams also recovered a firearm and several items suspected to have been taken during hijacking incidents. These included false vehicle registration plates and electronic equipment.
Preliminary information indicates that some of the arrested suspects may currently be on parole. Investigations are ongoing to establish the extent of their involvement and determine whether they can be linked to other criminal cases.
