Bottom line: the name is too broad for the definition they’ve created, ie. songs literally about yachting/sailing don’t qualify. Like saying “apple juice” can be used to describe a bunch of fruits juices but definitely not juice from apples!!!

The self-anointed deciders of what is yacht rock should stick to things they have a clue about. The true spirit of yachting couldn’t be further from their audio equivalent of a locker room full of obnoxious meatheads podcast where Michael Jackson is yacht rock but Buffett isn’t.
