🏈📊 THE POWER OF ANALYTICS IN HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL @HSFBamerica I am absolutely amazed by the work we are doing with analytics every single day at Tom Bean Football. Coach Goodman has brought another level of preparation, accountability, and efficiency to our offensive program. Every day, he breaks down our practice data and evaluates what is working, what isn’t working, and which plays are producing the results we need to stay on schedule offensively. If a play consistently fails to gain the yardage we need to stay ahead of the chains, we have to evaluate whether it belongs in our game plan. By Wednesday, I am taking Coach Goodman’s reports and using that information to build our offensive game plan. But it goes much deeper than that. 📊 PRACTICE ANALYTICS Tracks how many times we execute each play during practice. Records repetitions from the left and right hashes. Evaluates the efficiency of our offensive concepts. Identifies which plays consistently keep us ahead of the chains. Monitors our explosive plays and offensive production. 🏈 REPETITION CREATES EXECUTION Our goal is to run our base offensive plays at least 4–5 times throughout the practice week so we can evaluate execution and build consistency. When we introduce new concepts, I want even more repetitions. Our players need to develop muscle memory, confidence, and an understanding of the scheme. We don’t just practice plays. We measure how effectively we practice them. 🎧 GAME-DAY ANALYTICS One of the most valuable parts of Coach Goodman’s work is what he provides during games. Without even watching practice, he can use the data to tell me: Which plays are producing efficiently. Which concepts we should build complementary plays off of. Which plays are not working. Where our explosive plays are coming from. How we can make better decisions as an offensive staff. That information is invaluable when making adjustments during a game. THE BIGGER PICTURE What excites me most is that we are bringing a level of analytical preparation commonly associated with college football and the NFL into a small-town Texas high school football program. We may not have the resources of a major college program, but we can absolutely bring the same commitment to preparation, evaluation, and attention to detail. Analytics doesn’t replace coaching instincts. It gives those instincts better information. I’m proud of the work Coach Goodman is putting into this program. His attention to detail is helping us become more intentional with every practice rep, every play call, and every game plan. We are not guessing. We are evaluating. We are measuring. I remember sitting in college statistics class thinking, “When am I ever going to use this?” Fast-forward to today, and statistics have become a HUGE part of my coaching career! The numbers don’t lie. The film doesn’t lie. Midseason self-scouting is about taking an honest, unbiased look at our program identifying strengths, exposing weaknesses, studying tendencies, and finding ways to improve. Using @GameplanIQ to analyze our offense and improve our weekly game planning is making our program better! What makes this even more valuable is having our students involved in breaking down the data, learning how to analyze information, recognize trends, and understand the game at a deeper level. Twenty-six years ago, I started this journey because I loved the game of football. Today, I can honestly say I’m even more grateful for everything this profession has given me. I’ve had the privilege of coaching in multiple states, at every level of football from rebuilding programs to nationally recognized championship programs. Every stop has been different, every challenge has been unique, and every experience has helped shape me. I’m grateful for every opportunity, every player, every coach, every mentor, and every community I’ve been blessed to be a part of. Those experiences have shaped me as a father, as a coach, and most importantly, as a person. At the same time, I’ve learned that my past experiences don’t define me in my current role. Championships, titles, and previous stops may open doors, but they don’t earn trust with the players standing in front of you today. Young people appreciate your time, your investment, and your commitment—but they don’t really care where you’ve been. They care about what you can do for them today, how you can help them grow, and whether you’re willing to pour into their lives. That’s what keeps me motivated every single day. To continue learning, continue serving, and continue making a difference—one player, one practice, and one season at a time. Here’s to Year 26.
