The $6.4B Binance theft by North Korean actors began with a fake job interview, per Binance's initial findings.
We have attributed more than $14.3M in losses over the past 18 months to similar DPRK-linked faked interview and malware schemes.
These schemes have spanned a wide range of targets, from individual crypto holders and private wallets to organizations, protocols, and DAOs.
Our analysis suggests these earlier compromises allowed North Korean actors to refine their methods on small targets before deploying them against higher-value targets.
Per Binance, attackers spent weeks building trust with an employee, first approaching the employee through a legitimate job platform with a fake job opportunity.
After two rounds of interviews with a fictitious company, the Binance employee was asked to download an interview assignment that contained malicious code.
From there, they deployed malware and exploited access to an internal AI tool to move deeper into Binance's system.
We have observed multiple similar cases in which victims had wallet private keys stolen from cloud storage following a malicious interview.
Our research also indicates that North Korean actors have used fake employment schemes for other cyber attacks.
For instance, they have used such schemes to conceal malware in public blockchains. We’ve found a fivefold surge in these blockchain-assisted cyberattacks over the past year
The same actors can exploit recruitment platforms, compromise corporate infrastructure, infiltrate legitimate businesses and use crypto to move the resulting proceeds.
Chainalysis closely monitors how DPRK actors use crypto to generate revenue, move and consolidate funds, and launder illicit proceeds.
Combined with traditional cybersecurity measures and threat intelligence, blockchain analysis can help organizations and investigators identify and freeze stolen funds.
It can also map DPRK's expanding financial networks and uncover procurement and payment patterns that can support sanctions investigations and enforcement.
The Binance investigation remains ongoing and we expect stolen funds to continue moving in the coming days.

Our investigators are observing never-seen-before laundering patterns with the stolen funds from the Binance exploit. Thousands of transactions in a short period suggest that the attackers are using automation to obscure the trail of funds. Rather than simply moving funds onward, they repeatedly circulate them among addresses, often sending funds back to addresses involved earlier in the sequence.

Our current estimate on amount stolen is approx $5.912B at time of theft, nearly 4x the amount stolen in the next largest crypto heist (Bybit, 2025)

We are actively investigating the potential exploit of Binance in coordination with industry partners. At present we are monitoring funds moving across multiple blockchains, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Tron, and a number of L2s, and will support Binance throughout this investigation.

Our analysis of the $38M+ Coldcard hack reveals that the attacker hit high-value wallets (including a $1.8M victim) early in the sweep. This pattern suggests that the attacker studied the victim wallet population before proceeding.

This isn’t a meme coin:
It's the Venezuelan Stock Exchange, and it's up 74.68% since the U.S captured their president.
As much as I love Dune, the Flipside studio free tier was far superior to Dune's free tier engines in terms of compute. Take me back
The crypto onramp bottleneck no longer exists. "Retail" have countless ways to deploy capital into the Solana ecosystem, yet they're not interested.
For now, institutional demand is where the real value is.

The consumer surplus of AI will be 10x that of Search and Google.
im only paying like $200/yr for my ai chatbots. but the value i get out of them is easily $200k/yr, or 1000x the price i pay.
which brings to an important point: a ton of technologies and products create enormous value, but without defensibility, it’s the consumer not the business that captures most of it. and the ratio between them could be 1000:1.
