Sat down with @beincrypto at TOKEN2049 to discuss where crypto exchanges go from here: global equities, ecosystem partnerships, prediction markets and banking.
My view: the next generation of exchanges will become the front door to global finance. That’s the future we’re building at @Gate.

“We want Bitcoin to become the main USDT layer.” — Viktor Ihnatiuk, Co-Founder of UTEXO @VIhnatiuk @utexocom
Why Bitcoin? As Viktor explains, USDT was originally launched on Bitcoin, and the technology to bring it back is finally ready — with transfers in just 50–100 milliseconds, near-zero fees, and privacy without compromising compliance.
In this episode of the Gate Ventures Podcast, Viktor shares his vision for how RGB and the Lightning Network could transform Bitcoin into a fast, private settlement layer for USDT, along with his ambitious goal of bringing $10–20 billion in USDT TVL to Bitcoin within the next 12 months.
We also cover:
🔹 Private but compliant: Only the sender and receiver see the transaction, while bad actors can still be blacklisted
🔹 How private OTC trading on RGB could put an end to the “BlackRock is dumping” FUD
🔹 Instant cross-exchange arbitrage: UTEXO could serve as a programmable prime broker for HFT traders
🔹 Why AI agents will choose Bitcoin for payments, and how x402 is coming to Bitcoin

Onchain TCG has become a proven PMF in crypto.
What’s interesting now is seeing exchanges and wallets begin to adopt it as a product layer.
A year ago, we saw the “DeFi mullet” become mainstream: DeFi protocols sit in the backend as the liquidity and infrastructure layer, while CEXs and neobanks own the frontend distribution.
TCG trading now seems to be developing along a similar path:
TCG infrastructure in the backend, exchanges / wallets / neobanks as the distribution layer.
Still early on the distribution side, but the pattern is already taking shape.

From Equity Trader to Crypto VC: High Rates, Tokenized Stocks, DATs, and Robinhood Chain

🎤Host: Jeremy Wallis, Partner at Gate Ventures @fintechblocks
Tokenized T-bills now pay a real yield on-chain. Stock tokens are pulling huge volume. DATs let traditional PMs buy crypto through a listed ticker. But which of these would actually hold up as a position on a real equity desk?
Our guest Balder Bomans, CIO at Maven 11 Capital, spent eight years trading European cash equities at Kempen before co-founding the Amsterdam-based crypto VC. He joins us to break down how high rates, tokenized stocks and DATs are reshaping crypto investing.
We'll cover:
🔹What an equity desk teaches you about underwriting tokens — and what you have to unlearn
🔹Tokenized T-bills & the on-chain risk-free rate: who wins, who loses?
🔹xStocks, Robinhood Chain & the SEC exemption: are stock tokens really equities?
🔹DATs: a distribution layer that scales, or premium-to-NAV vehicles waiting to break?
🔹MiCA vs. the U.S. sandbox vs. Asia: where should companies actually build?

Gate Institutional Weekly Report (September 14–20, 2026) 📊
Higher rates are keeping pressure on risk asset valuations, but crypto showed relative resilience over the past week. The latest Gate Institutional Weekly Report examines how markets responded as the Fed raised rates by 25 bps and the U.S. 10-year Treasury yield approached 5%.
Key Developments:
🔹 ETF Flows: BTC ETF flows were roughly flat, while ETH ETFs recorded around $141M in net outflows
🔹 Gate TradFi: Weekly trading volume reached approximately $110B, remaining at elevated levels
🔹 On-chain: Stablecoin supply edged lower, while LSTs recovered and lending demand continued to grow
🔹 Derivatives: BTC open interest rose 6.42%, with funding rates remaining positive throughout the week
Against a higher-rate backdrop, liquidity flows, derivatives activity, and on-chain trends remain key signals to watch.

The next payment war won’t be fought over cards.
It will be fought over settlement, identity, authorization, and infrastructure.
As money moves 24/7 on-chain — and AI agents increasingly initiate transactions — Visa and Mastercard are repositioning for a new payment stack.
→ Visa’s stablecoin settlement volume: $20B annualized, 15x+ YoY
→ Mastercard: 6 stablecoins across 8 public chains
→ Both are building the trust and authorization layer for Agentic Payments
But their strategies are diverging:
Visa is going deeper into the network, turning settlement data into programmable financial infrastructure.
Mastercard is expanding beyond cards, targeting stablecoins, wallets, treasury, and AI-driven commerce.
The question is no longer whether stablecoins enter traditional payments — but who owns the infrastructure when payments become on-chain, programmable, and autonomous.
