there is such a tragically massive void in what we can know of cartilaginous fish sociality and individuality because the majority of them are so elusive, rare and endangered, on top of existing low fertility and long lifespans, and so many species only known from bycatch
The Legend is a 4m (13') male great white shark who was first identified at Isla de Guadalupe in 2014. Unlike many of Guadalupe's white sharks, The Legend is not generally camera shy. I have had moments where I thought he was going to bump my camera's dome.

Keyser Söze, one of Guadalupe's male great white sharks, captured as he briefly turns toward the camera. While a shot like this might suggest Keyser has turned his attention toward me, it's a actually just a shot caught mid-turn, and Keyser was unbothered by my presence.

Resharing one of my favorite images of my favorite great white shark of all time...the legendary Cal Ripfin/Shredder for @SharkWeek . This guy was a rock star at Guadalupe and was likely the most photographed shark on the planet for many years in the first decade of the 2000s.

Stormy is a female great white shark, who was first identified at Isla de Guadalupe in 2016. In my encounters with her she was very curious, which made for quite a few photo opportunities.
