Day 486 of my 3 day war. The Russian invasion of Russia to free Russia from Russians is over, so now Russia is free to continue not invading Ukraine which is actually Russia cos the West is invading Russia from Ukraine which is Russia. I remain a master strategist.

Scientists estimate there are tens of millions of black holes dotted around our galaxy, but so far we’ve only found a few dozen. Most of the best-observed are in orbit with a star, and this video shows 22 systems studied by our missions! go.nasa.gov/3s5X6Oc #BlackHoleFriday

If Twitter manages to stay up despite this chaos, it’s a testament to the decade long infrastructure engineering efforts and investment in resilience and testing. Twitter’s blog posts detailed many of these efforts. It’s the sort of “unseen” work that pays off in the long haul.

“What are we doing again?” “Birdwatching.” “How does this work?” “First, we look for a bird.” “And we eat it.” “No, we take a picture of it.” “Then we eat it?” “No, we write down the name of it.” “And then can we finally eat it?” “We don’t eat the bird, Gerald.” “This is stupid.”

In awe of Hurricane Ian's display of power as it approaches Florida. An extraordinary amount lightning surrounding the eye.

I have flown storms for the last six years. This flight to Hurricane #Ian on Kermit (#NOAA42) was the worst I’ve ever been on. I’ve never seen so much lightning in an eye. This was the eye. You can see the curvature. Understand this is at NIGHT. The light is from LIGHTNING.

When you fly into a hurricane you also have to fly back out. That means punching back through the eyewall. This was Hurricane #Ian this morning aboard Kermit (#NOAA42). The pilot keeps the aircraft steady, the flight engineer in the middle maintains airspeed.
