This is actually pretty unsettling. Representatives from OpenAI and Meta just warned federal judges that AI-generated videos are becoming so convincing that we may eventually have no reliable way to tell whether they’re real. And we’re not talking about somebody making a fake celebrity video on the internet. We’re talking about evidence presented in court. Imagine being on trial and someone introduces a video of you doing something you never actually did. Or imagine a real video being dismissed as AI-generated. Thankfully, this hasn’t become a widespread problem in courtrooms yet, but the federal judiciary is already trying to figure out how to handle it. We’ve reached a point where seeing something with your own eyes might not be enough to know it actually happened. That’s a hell of a problem.
