You can always tell when Trump gets fed a line from his Russian/Chinese handlers because suddenly his numbers become correct.
Trump bears an economic grudge against Taiwan and wants Taiwan to pay for US protection. He also says: “Taiwan is 9,500 miles away. It’s 68 miles away from China.”

Going to be interesting to see how often 12 GOP senators and ~35 GOP reps are going to be willing to override a veto

yesss yesss they're beginning to see!
Jon Stewart having Ed Zitron on as an "AI expert" really makes me question everything I learned about the world from the Daily Show when I was 13 years old

> people who called his GPT-2 fears "pseudoscience" in 2019 are now all applying for jobs at AI labs that does not mean the fears were correct! they're totally unrelated issues!
Dario reveals the people who called his GPT-2 fears "pseudoscience" in 2019 are now all applying for jobs at AI labs "I personally was super freaked out by [GPT-2]. I looked at it and I said, my God, you just scale this thing up another factor of a million and it'll be better than humans at everything. This is the defining economic and scientific moment of the modern age. We just don't know it yet. This is going to determine the fate of nations and economies and the future of humanity." "Maybe 10% of the people around me had exactly the same reaction, and it was often the smartest ones. 90% of the people around me, because GPT-2's capabilities in any particular area were not that impressive, it could translate languages, summarize a document and write a few lines of code here and there. It was the broadness and the generality." "But people would look at it and say, in any particular area, that doesn't seem so smart. And so many people just shrugged and they just dismissed it." "I just look at it and I say it's the same thing over and over again. The limitations of the models, six months from now, the things that seemed hard, they're going to be easy. 12 months from now, the things that seemed impossible, the models are going to be doing them regularly." "It's everything we saw with GPT-2; we're seeing it over and over again in wider and wider swaths of the world. And the world is gradually finally being convinced." Daniela Amodei: "I remember at the time there were some very well-respected computer scientists and AI and ML leaders who basically bullied some of the researchers who worked on [GPT-2] on Twitter and were like, this is stupid. We don't know why you guys are even talking, this model is so incapable." "It was like you were sort of a quack if you believed this was a really significant moment." Dario: "That's all been memory-holed. All the researchers who were like, oh, this is pseudoscience, it doesn't make sense, all of them are applying for jobs at the LLM companies." "We never say it out loud to any particular one, but we look at them and they're like, we remember what you were saying in 2019. You have no credibility on this matter."

If you want a bunch of made-in-USA metal and want to make the country stronger, buy one of these, not one of those silly laptops.
A freshly machined 45. Made in the USA. thestrength.co

Qualcomm cashing on jingoistic fools who want to proudly use a heavy, expensive computer with a fucking American flag etched on it so on-brand.
Today, @anduriltech and @qualcomm announced a new laptop that will eventually be 100% made in America, a “first step” toward creating a market for U.S.-manufactured components and total technological self-sufficiency. Building computers in America should be a matter of “national pride,” says @PalmerLuckey. @JonasYDu reports 👇

Man Intel has gotta feel so fucking rug pulled after they actually selling themselves to Trump and they still can't get Magatech to buy their chips lol

The chips are fabbed in Taiwan and Korea but we can have the...metal chassis? made in the US so it can be extra expensive and heavy cool cool cool
Anduril's new computer BlueChip is built with metals "America knows how to extract, refine, process & mill at scale." @PalmerLuckey on the importance of building in America: "Things like the thickness of the metal that we used, the level of heat treat that we could do, even the way that we fastened or welded pieces together—they were based on what we already knew how to do at scale in American industry." "I think that we've lost that as a country."

Turns out “vendoring” (copying and pasting code instead of doing proper dependency management) was a bad idea who could have foreseen this
During this red-teaming exercise, we also found a vulnerability that allows for unauthenticated remote code execution in Brotli, a widely-deployed compression library included in many pieces of software such as Node.js, Bun, and Envoy. The flaw could let an attacker run their own code on affected systems by sending or replying with malicious compressed data, without any need to create a user account. That is, an unpatched server that accepts compressed input could be taken over by a malicious client, and an unpatched client that accepts compressed input (such as “curl --compressed”) could be taken over by a malicious server. This root cause issue was actually fixed in the Brotli source code in February, but it wasn’t known at the time that it gave rise to a security vulnerability and there was no more recent release of Brotli. Since Brotli is built into other software, any software which includes this library needs to take the update too, followed by the users of that software. We disclosed the vulnerability to Brotli and other downstream projects such as Node.js, which released or are currently releasing security updates, and Brotli cut new release versions and published a CVE. More details on the patch and mitigations below: patchtheplanet.org/brotli

as I was saying, Vivek's ad was brilliant for the audience it was targeting
President Trump strongly defends Vivek Ramaswamy’s ad featuring Amy Acton’s estranged mom. Trump: “That took a lot of courage to do but, essentially, what she was really doing was saving Ohio from making a truly horrible choice! The Press is trying to convince everyone that this Ad is bad, because it’s so good! Who wouldn’t use such an Ad? I would, it’s called, ‘hitting pay dirt.’”

this must have gone so hard on JD's signal group chats
Vance defends Vivek Ramaswamy's ad featuring Amy Acton's estranged mother: "The media and Democrats are obsessed because Vivek Ramaswamy had the audacity to run a TV commercial that calls it like it is"

It's crazy that there's a tool out there that's become vital to they way I do my job, parent my kids, and make major life decisions; and yet we barely spend more on it than AI
TIL that global spending on alcohol is still larger than AI infrastructure spending this year ($1.7T vs $1.5T)

The other thing people are missing here is that human auditors do have to go through AI logs, and it’s incredibly uncomfortable to read the gross shit people type to chatbots larping as doms
A lot of people are mocking this, but I think they’re wrong. I’m not kind to AI for the AI’s sake; I’m kind to AI for my own sake. It’s not good for *me* to be cruel or abusive.

A surprising new study finds that people who sleep near their dogs don’t experience disrupted sleep. If anything, the University of Toronto researchers discovered, we humans are the ones disturbing our dogs’ sleep. nbcnews.com/health/health-ne…
