Canada clearly made a serious, good faith effort to get greater stability and market access, and remains ready to find a fair, balanced agreement.
But we are not cravenly surrendering in the face of constant economic and political aggression.
Responding to the new US tariffs with counter tariffs is exactly the right thing to do at this time.
People in the Trump Administration keep expressing outrage that Canada is the only country in the world apart from China to retaliate against US tariffs.

Hut 8 just turned a crypto miner into a $16.8B lease machine and the tape is still catching up.
Shares are up 426% in twelve months, 52-week range $25.68 to $194, market cap now $14.4B, and beta sits at 6.07 so every tick feels like a margin call.
I keep staring at the Q1 numbers though. Revenue came in at $71M, up 226% but still missed the $106M print, and yet
gross margin jumped from 14% to 64% because compute went from $16M to roughly $66M. Net loss widened to $253M on mark-to-market bitcoin hits, but they still hold $1.3B cash plus coin and institutions own over 70% now, up from under 10% two years ago.
The real story is Beacon Point. Fifteen-year triple-net on 352 MW, $9.8B base value with a 3% escalator, total contracted leases already at $16.8 billion across the campuses, pipeline over 9 GW, Nvidia as design partner. Second phase just commercialized and the stock ripped.

My read is the miss was pure delivery timing, the market is pricing the landlord years not the quarter, and this thing stays a high-beta AI power pure play until someone proves the hyperscalers walk. Early on the pivot speed last year, took longer than i thought, but the backlog is now the whole game.
