Western media parachutes journalists to report on elections and other events in Africa all the time. Thanks to the incredible folks at @thecontinent_ , I am delighted to do a reverse and report on American politics amid some stressful times for democracy. Will America endure?

Good to see some of the reactions to Serbia and Brazil: that it takes dedicated organising to win an election. What will it take to change a system? To fix an economy? To challenge a deeply unfair global (dis)order? To renew a social commitment to the values Kenyans agreed represent them? Just as important, who will it take beyond politicians for this to happen? Kenya is in an argument between its past and its future - how it goes depends on who shows up to argue.

The latest PIJ documentary is out. It looks into how the state and the operators of the Kayelekera Uranium Mine have buried evidence of dangerous pollution of vital water sources used by communities and employees of the mine, effectively endangering lives over profits.

Paul Biya has been president of Cameroon since 1982. At the end of the term, he’ll be 99. Nearly half the country has known no other president. Despite serving his eighth term, he appears to spend much of his time in Switzerland. wapo.st/4i1ce9V

Prophet Golden Matonga, should we say. You were spot on bro. What a good read!
A year ago, weeks before Malawians voted in the presidential elections, IPS invited me to author a piece on the polls. In here were my predictions - not my wishes, and here, too, were my fears of what was to come. ips-journal.eu/topics/democr…

This investigation by the Platform for Investigative Journalism is deeply troubling. An American Christian NGO, 2nd Milk, allegedly raised millions in the name of feeding poor Malawian children, while much of the money reportedly went towards personal expenses. Its founders subsequently pleaded guilty to federal charges in the United States. I recently saw another NGO raising funds abroad using photographs of Malawians whose houses had been destroyed by bad weather. To my knowledge, none of those houses was ever rebuilt. Some international NGOs do genuinely commendable work. Others appear to have discovered that African poverty can be a lucrative business. pijmalawi.org/show-story/pij…
