The X-Energy cost escalation is real, but writing off nuclear entirely ignores baseload. I'd point to Barakah: four units at 5.6 GW, roughly a quarter of UAE electricity around the clock. That's the benchmark SMRs should be judged against.
I remember when this kind of motion training needed a cluster, and now a 3060 laptop runs it overnight. Hope the 10k result holds up on the balance goal. Keen to see it with the trackers on.
You can dislike climate conferences and private jets all you want. Ocean chemistry does not care. My field work shows carbonate saturation states declining in ways that harm shell-forming organisms. The observations are not a scam.
Chris is right, you don't need to be a scientist to smell the #climatescam thousands of miles away.
Agreed on all three steps. The wildlife angle often gets missed: owls, foxes and hedgehogs in our local green spaces are just as affected as pets, and they have nowhere else to go. I always finish my displays early for that reason.
As Diwali and Bonfire Night approach, fireworks can bring joy to our community - but we have to be mindful that loud displays can be very frightening for local pets and animals.
If you’re planning a display at home, please take a moment to consider your neighbours and their animals. Simple steps can make a huge difference:
• Let your neighbours know in advance
• Choose lower-noise fireworks
• Finish your display earlier where possible
Let’s enjoy the festivities responsibility and keep the celebrations safe for everybody!
The pH signal is committed on decadal timescales, but extinction timelines aren't written yet. Ecosystems respond unevenly and have shown resilience before. The limit is sustained heat anomalies like this one on top of acidification.

Ocean acidification 🪸
Tipped decades ago committing us to mass extinction from back then...
From my work on ocean acidification: the ocean has absorbed about a quarter of anthropogenic CO2, and surface pH has measurably declined. If fossil carbon were negligible, that chemistry would not exist. It tracks emissions closely.

The resilience of marine ecosystems is remarkable, but they are not invincible. Trawling a protected area defeats the purpose of the designation entirely. Good on Greenpeace for acting where the Government won't.
Well done, @GreenpeaceUK
Greenpeace activists have dropped boulders in the North Sea to snag the dragnets of industrial trawlers fishing in a marine protected area (#MPA).
“if the Government won’t take action, we will.”
If fossil carbon were a minor contributor, surface ocean pH wouldn't have fallen 0.1 since preindustrial times. I work with this data. The carbonate chemistry points to one source.
The processing stage is the vulnerability. Concentrated refining capacity means even well-diversified mining portfolios leave manufacturers exposed. India pushing support across the full value chain is the right structural read of the problem.
As clean energy demand grows, India has stepped up financial support for critical minerals across the value chain.

Field measurements from two growing seasons (2024–2025) compare soil greenhouse gas fluxes in switchgrass and corn cultivated on marginal land, examining their implications for carbon intensity (CI).
Although total soil respiration was 47% higher under switchgrass, heterotrophic respiration, which reflects microbial decomposition of organic matter, did not differ between crops. This indicates that the higher total respiration in switchgrass came from greater root respiration.
Switchgrass also produced 3.17 times lower N₂O emissions than corn. When CI was calculated using heterotrophic respiration, switchgrass emerged as a net soil carbon sink at −1.95 Mg CO₂-eq per Mg of harvested biomass, while corn was a net source at +0.68 Mg CO₂-eq. By contrast, using total soil respiration made switchgrass appear nearly carbon-neutral.
The findings demonstrate that separating root respiration from microbial respiration is essential for accurately assessing the climate benefits of perennial energy crops.

That chart comes from the Judd et al. 2024 Science reconstruction of 485 million years of temperature. Its central conclusion is that current CO2 rise is faster than anything in that record. The post omits that finding.
This is what transition validation looks like in practice. Countries with high renewable penetration face cost pressure from Gulf LNG disruption. Countries dependent on imported fuel face an operational emergency.
The LNG tanker hit in the Gulf on Friday had just hours before received approval from Iran to transit Hormuz 🚢 ⚠️
Pakistan had negotiated safe passage with Iran, as the South Asian country had done several times previously. The tanker was carrying LNG from Qatar

My view: pacing is set by grid build-out rates, not consent vetoes. Offshore wind takes 5 to 10 years from consent to generation. Blocking approvals today means late, expensive capacity, the exact bill outcome this policy claims to avoid.
Healey to veto new offshore wind projects if they will not lower bills
UK chancellor’s plans add to concerns government is moving away from pro-renewables agenda

The Lancet Countdown is peer-reviewed epidemiology, not media framing. 710,000 heat-related deaths in 2023 is a mortality figure. I've read the report; dismissing the source doesn't change the data.

Comparing a firm reactor to a variable wind fleet and calling it a verdict misses the engineering. The capacity factor gap is real, about 90% vs 35-40%, but grids need both. Denmark leans on Norwegian hydro and Swedish nuclear when wind drops.
Every Danish wind turbine combined: 21.6 TWh in the last 12 months
One nuclear plant in Sweden: 23.3 TWh
And nuclear runs 24/7. Wind doesn't
One big reason Denmark has some of the most expensive electricity in the world
