According to the TSA, everyone is happy to go along with having their faces scanned, and our growing record of passengers who wish to opt out is insignificant. If you have any concerns about the proliferation of facial recognition throughout the United States, please consider filling out a scorecard at fly.ajl.org and share the link with others. See article from Fast Company for more details: fastcompany.com/90918235/tsa…

Reminder that the SAT was literally created bc too many students of color were getting into college. The creator of it published that the increase of racial diversity in schools would cause the decline of American intelligence. By 1930, he admitted it was a eugenics test.

So there's good and bad news; which do you want first? The bad news is that we're leaving @Meetup because it's not free and the good news is we've redesigned our website so you can sign up for events and get reminders from there. Come check us out @ blackgirlshack.org

PSA for trans people in Kansas, Montana, Tennessee. Get your drivers license and birth certificate changed ASAP. And order MANY copies of your birth certificate, as they will not confiscate those. Kansas intends to roll back legal gender changes, even if you already did it.

For those that travel, watch your hotel bills carefully. I've had an increase in incorrect incidental charges (minibar, in-room water, etc) to the tune of one every 5-6 stays.

One of our key sources of human data is no longer fully “human"! We estimate that 33-46% of crowd workers on MTurk used large language models (LLMs) in a text production task - which may increase as ChatGPT and the like become more popular and powerful. arxiv.org/abs/2306.07899

I keep trying to explain why switching existing tools and services to generative AI models will make their energy costs/carbon footprint explode: this is a great example!
