Fifty years ago, a kid could disappear into the woods with a pocketknife, a canteen, and a couple of friends. You built forts, explored creeks, and came home covered in dirt. Nobody called it an adventure. It was just a Thursday afternoon to us.

Only Gen X could walk into a flea market with five bucks and leave with enough weapons to become a ninja.

Growing up, there were two kinds of families. The ones where kids were allowed to answer the telephone. And the ones where you weren't allowed to touch it unless an adult told you to. Which house were you raised in?

Back in my day, the kitchen table was where everything happened. Homework got done. Bills got paid. Arguments got settled. Family decisions got made. Nobody called it quality time. It was just where life happened, usually with somebody telling you to get your elbows off the table.

Maybe I'm just old school, but I miss when a movie theater went completely dark, the curtains opened, and everyone actually watched the movie. No glowing phones. No checking messages. For two hours, the outside world didn't exist. And that was the whole point.
