This excerpt from the opening of “Realm of Treason” The throne room is large with a high, arched ceiling. The front half of which is windowed with glass panes sized and spaced to mark the hours of the passing day. The light from the noon sun fills the entire hall. Between the large windows are glow stones that store the sunlight and release it during the first few hours of night. The length of the hall runs north south, the back, southern half is inside the mountain. The entire southern wall is a raised relief picture of the mountain and citadel. The east and west walls are lined with empty pedestals waiting for statues and busts yet to be created. The walls and floor are made of polished granite cut to perfection so that no seam can be easily detected. In front of the southern wall, where the floor is two steps higher, are five plain, brown, leather armchairs. The only thing that marks the king’s chair is that it is one step higher than the other four. All the chairs are spaced so that a large man can stand between them. The front, north wall, has a single, huge door, fit for the giants that made it. On either side of this door is a long bench that fills the wall. The only other decorations are the five huge tapestries on the east wall. The first one is of the Citadel. The second shows the mountain. The third is the portrait of an old warrior who has a scar on his left cheek. The fourth is portrait of a king sitting on a plain throne. The last is of the barrel-chested warrior who is now entering the hall with a companion. His footsteps echo through the near empty throne room towards the back of the chamber. His companion barely makes a sound. He is wearing chainmail over brown, leather armor with a saber on his left hip and a broadsword on his back. His braided brown hair hangs to his waist and his braided reddish beard hangs down his chest. His light brown eyes are hooded by heavy eyebrows. He is broad shouldered and powerfully built. Though he is tall, he only comes to the shoulder of his companion, the Balderian. Balderians are a tall, thin race with snow white skin and large, pointy ears with no lobes. Their prehensile tails tend to be as long as they are tall. They are lightly covered with fur and all adults have a leonine mane that goes between their shoulders. This one is covered with purple fur except for the insides of his hands and the soles of his bare feet. His weapon is an aberd, which is two metal deer antlers on either end of a handle. He is wearing a loose-fitting white shirt, brown kilt, and green cape that reaches his ankles. When they hear the door close behind them, they know that it is safe to talk. The Balderian speaks with a smooth voice, “My King, what is the urgency?” Without looking at his companion the king says, “It is time to choose a successor, an heir to the throne.” “I take it I am not on that list?” The companion looks down on his king. The king looks up, you knew you wouldn’t be. I don’t even know how old you are or how much longer you will live.” The purple man smiles, showing his fangs, “What is age between friends?” he laughs. “What qualities are you looking for in your heir? From past experience being best with a sword is not one, only being the king’s son.” The king stops and glares at his comrade, “Just because you bested me thirty years ago doesn’t mean you could do so now. And, do you really think that the only reason I sit in that throne is because my fathers founded this realm? Galf, you’ve been my friend ‘n loyal aide for thirty years. You taught me most of what I need to know to sit in that throne.” He points at the chairs and then at Galf, “You came to me asking for the Oath of Confessor. I can still see the Imp living in you, holding that oath.” The two stare at each other a moment. The Imp is a small, jellyfish like symbiote, about the size of a woman’s fist, that turns tears luminescent, causing the eyes to glow. Galf smiles and walks again, “Your sons are twenty-one, nineteen, and seventeen. You want one to succeed you.” “A father’s pride says yes, but a king’s concern says ensure the safety of the realm.”

Good day on this Wednesday. I've been debating myself as to whether or not to post and reply today. Physical health issues affect my mental health and memory. So, It's best to remain silent. Live, love, laugh and have a wonderful day.

Monday again. Tomorrow is a medical appointment but today we zoom along 0-30 in 6.2 aspirin. Look to the sky and see the same moon your ancestors did. That slow clock that guided the passage of time. You can't smell the roses at 100mph.
