He's being diplomatic.
USD is a global reserve currency and the Fed will leverage that to "export" inflation as they did after covid.
That's assuming Iran magically lets Donald off the hook & fuel prices fall over time.
Oh, and Bailey ignores Rachel's pubsec payrises' effect.

This image of Russell Brand at the Guardian, where he had a column, is almost poetic, isnโt it? Look at him holding court, adored, by some, ignored by a few others.
Remember how Ed Miliband cosied up to Russell Brand in his home in the run-up to the 2015 election.
Even at the time, Brand had a terrible reputation. But Ed thought it was the best way to reach the youth vote.
He is now Andy Burnham's choice of Foreign Secretary.

Exc: Evasion of Angela Raynerโs new โtourist taxโ will carry a maximum penalty of 14 years in prison.
The measures, set out in a bill published on Wednesday, target accommodation providers in England who evade the proposed overnight visitor levy.
The new legislation is also designed to prevent property owners offering โmatesโ ratesโ to friends that would reduce the amount of tax paid on temporary stays.

We are going into the reset talks, not with asks of our own, but with a determination to proclaim that we have reached a deal. EU negotiators have clocked it, and have set their demands accordingly.

Twice this week I have had cause to think about how thereโs a tactic called โmoral masqueradingโ where offenders get involved in campaigning or charity work to make themselves appear above reproach. It builds moral & social capital so if they are ever accused they have a buffer of implied innocence. Itโs how they hide in plain sight.

I doubt that Iran will ever develop the capacity to strike the US directly, and there was no imminent threat of them doing so, but I do believe Iran would be more than willing to try eventually. That, though, is a redundant argument. The fact is, Iran is the regional aggressor. In 2024, Iran launched hundreds of drones and missiles at Israel, most of which were intercepted by jets from the IAF, USAF and RAF.
Israeli officials (IDF) stated that roughly 99% of the more than 300 drones, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles launched by Iran were intercepted, either outside Israeli airspace or over the country itself.
That is a testament to Western defence technology, but it is not infallible and it does not mitigate Iran's intent. Had even one ballistic missile hit a densely populated civilian are in Israel, the two countries would undoubtedly be in a state of all out war, which would no doubt become a regional war, likely necessitating Western intervention. God only knows what that would have done to gas prices.
It should be noted that Operation Epic Fury, said to be about Iran's nuclear potential, was much as much about degrading Iran's conventional arsenal, which America was reasonably successful at. Iran had already provided the necessary justification.
Iran is now limited in what it can do and is restricted to harassing shipping, mainly through its proxies, which continues to cause instability in energy exports, but Iran is likely restrained for now, being that a repeat of 2024 will likely see a repeat of Epic Fury.
While nothing has been definitively resolved, inaction and indifference is not consequence free. US actions have likely prevented an all out conflict between Israel and Iran. Such a conflict would enflame the entire region. America can be criticised for its bungled diplomacy, but Trump is right that the region cannot be abandoned to its fate.
As much as anything, Iran's sponsorship of terrorism, not least Hamas and Hezbollah, have already caused massive regional instability with serious domestic consequences for European politics (especially regarding the Islamo-leftist revolutionary movement). Europe should have taken a more active role in putting a stop to it.
On principle, it is right that the free West comes to the aid of a democratic ally like Israel, but it is also in our interests to do so - unless we're just going to wash our hands of international affairs and let bands of Arab nomads and mad mullahs decide which shipping lanes can stay open. That imposes costs on energy, shipping insurance, and supply chains regardless of whether we are involved militarily. If you think staying out of it means they'll simply leave us alone, and let ships destined for Europe pass through unmolested, I have a bridge to sell you.

My monologue on todayโs The Times at One with ANDREW NEIL. @TimesRadio
Interest rates up, inflation up โ in the UK
As the rest of the world tries to grapple with the fall out from the US midterm elections โ what will two bloody noses for President Trump and a Democratic Congress mean for US foreign policy? โ PM Andy Burnhamโs contribution is to suggest the world unites around cost of living issues.ย
Workers of the world unite! You have nothing to lose but high prices.ย
It is, of course, an absurd proposition.
Presumably heโs referring to the need to resolve the conflicts in Ukraine and the Gulf, both of which have pushed up energy prices and added to general inflationary pressures.ย
But itโs not clear how the midterm results will affect either war โ certainly not in ways of which Mr Burnham would approve.ย
President Trump would have no compunction in selling out Ukraine. That would certainly bring peace of a kind โ in the form of a Russian victory. Mr Burnham surely couldnโt approve of that.ย
In the Gulf thereโs a renewed US military build up with Mr Trump indicating, now the midterms are out of the way, more major assaults on Iran.ย
To what purpose has not been explained and they would likely pave the way to massive Iranian retaliation. So Mr Burnham would surely not approve of that either.ย
The implication of the PMโs remarks is that, on the cost of living โ the most important economic issue facing British people โ he is not in control.ย
That it depends on global factors outside his powers. The Chancellor paved the way for this position when he began his Budget speech by claiming everything he was about to say could be blown away by global events beyond his control.ย
Mr Burnham has now echoed that.ย
And, of course, there are global events which can push up prices in Britain and stymie economic growth, about which a British government can do very little.ย
But ministers are not exactly powerless when it comes to the cost of living, though they like to give that impression.ย
Take petrol. If it costs you ยฃ100 to fill up your tank โ and thatโs not uncommon these days โ be aware that almost half of that is going in taxes.ย
The tax take in all manner of energy costs is enormous. The government could do something about that, pressing down on inflation. But its so-called breathing space measures barely scratch the surface of living costs.ย
The Bank of England has just whacked up interest rates by a quarter point to 4%, with the prospect of more to come next year. Some speculate they could be as high as 5% by this time next year, which heralds more misery for those with a mortgage or a small business loan.ย
Inflation rose to 3.6% in September, propelled by energy costs, and the Bank expects to reach around 5% before next summer โ a dramatic rise on previous forecasts.
Nobody is sure when it will start to come down again. That may depend on what President Trump has in store in the Gulf.ย
The official forecast is for the UK economy to grow by 1.2% this year and 1% next. These are hardly stellar rates for a government that promised to put growth left, right and centre of its economic policy.ย
Now, other than tinkering at the edges, it has become a spectator, hoping that events outside of its control will come to its aid.ย
But hoping President Trump will somehow do the right thing when it comes to the cost of living isnโt an economic policy, itโs a foolโs errand.ย
Nevertheless Mr Burnham appears to have set out on one โ and it will be of no help to the cost of living this winter.
