ENDF Cold-Bloodedy Executed 28 Wounded TDF Fighters in Bizet

Disturbing reports emerging from the recent confrontation in the Bizet area confirm that Ethiopian National Defense Forces (ENDF) soldiers cold-bloodedly executed 28 wounded and captured Tigray Defense Forces (TDF) fighters.
According to these reports, after reportedly suffering heavy losses during the engagement, ENDF troops allegedly took their rage and frustration out on defenseless, wounded combatants who were no longer capable of fighting. Even more horrifying is the reported execution of an uninjured nurse who courageously refused to abandon her wounded comrades.
The ENDF, increasingly identified with Abiy Ahmed's Prosperity Party (PP) regime, has long faced serious allegations of war crimes and atrocities against civilians and captured combatants. If verified, this latest incident would represent yet another appalling manifestation of that pattern of brutality and disregard for human life.
The deliberate execution of wounded or captured combatants is a grave violation of international humanitarian law, particularly the fundamental protection afforded to persons hors de combat—those who are wounded, captured, or otherwise rendered incapable of participating in hostilities. Such killings constitute war crimes.
Even by the standards of the most morally bankrupt regimes, deliberately executing defenseless wounded fighters, and a nurse who refused to abandon the wounded represents an extraordinary descent into cruelty.
These acts are utterly abhorrent that warrant immediat and unequivocal international condemnation.
I long for the day when every atrocity committed against the people of Tigray is fully documented, every crime is brought before the bar of justice, and every perpetrator is held accountable. May no crime be forgotten, no victim be denied justice, and no perpetrator escape accountability.

* The UN has become "more of a spectator than at the centre of some of the world's greatest crises and conflicts." "The role of the Secretary-General in peacemaking and mediation is more urgent than ever."
* When asked about Sudan, I made it clear it would be one of my most urgent priorities. "Judge me by my actions in my first 100 days." The fighting must stop. Humanitarian aid must reach those who need it. And we need a credible and democratic political process that reflects the aspirations of the Sudanese people.
* Asked about my independence, I was clear that my responsibility would be to the UN Charter and the Organisation. "I would speak frankly to every government on all the crises" we face, without fear or favour.
* Asked about the Board of Peace, I pointed out its the mandate has been welcomed by a UN Security Council resolution, it and the Board has "played a galvanising role at a time of gridlock".
* On the budget, my answer is to "prioritise", delivering a UN that is more focused and partners more closely with the private sector, the World Bank, the IMF and development banks.
Countries have not stopped needing one another. The task now is to make cooperation work, for all.
