I hated myself because my fuckin dad left me and it scarred me for life. I didn’t hate black people or that fact that I am black. I hated myself as a woman because that’s what my fuckin brothers and father taught me. So fuck you and fuck what you heard. How fuckin dare you.

Rest in peace, Bill Nunn. 🕊️
A beloved American actor, Bill Nunn left behind an unforgettable legacy through his memorable performances in film, television, and theater.
He was best known for portraying Radio Raheem in Spike Lee’s critically acclaimed film Do the Right Thing. His powerful performance, particularly the iconic “Love and Hate” speech, became one of the most memorable moments in the movie.
Beyond that role, Nunn was widely recognized for playing Joseph “Robbie” Robertson, the Daily Bugle editor, in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, starring alongside Tobey Maguire. He also appeared in popular films such as New Jack City, Sister Act, Regarding Henry, Mo’ Better Blues, He Got Game, The Legend of 1900, and Runaway Jury.
On television, he was known for playing Terrence “Pip” Phillips in The Job and Cash in the comedy series Sirens. He also appeared in Chicago Hope, The X-Files, and The District.
Throughout his career, Nunn became a respected character actor, particularly through his collaborations with filmmaker Spike Lee. He also supported young performers through the Bill Nunn Theatre Outreach Project, helping bring theater opportunities to students in Pittsburgh.
Born October 20, 1953, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Bill Nunn passed away on September 24, 2016, at the age of 62, following a battle with leukemia.
Though he is gone, his unforgettable performances and the characters he brought to life will continue to entertain and inspire audiences for generations to come.
Thank you for the memorable performances, the iconic characters, and the lasting legacy you left behind, Bill Nunn.
Rest easy. You will never be forgotten. 🕊️

Being right years ahead of others isn’t nearly as satisfying as people think. Nobody apologizes for treating you like a crazy. They just come back years later, repeating what you told them as if it’s some groundbreaking revelation because they finally heard it from someone else.

BLACK FACES IN HIGH PLACES
WON'T SAVE US
As the fascist nature of imperial policy is being amplified by the Trump administration, the neoliberal policies that have paved the way are often overlooked. Often, they are even pushed by so-called opposition Democrats - a party that just defeated Trump's Republican Party.
Today, we revisit a powerful moment from April 2024, when Professor Ruha Benjamin addressed this idea during a speech at Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia.
Far away from the white supremacist aesthetic of MAGA, the African-American Democratic leadership that has pushed imperial policy helped expose the simple fact that “Black faces in high places are not going to save us,” as Professor Benjamin expressed. In other words, we cannot assume that fellow Black individuals will protect our rights solely because they occupy positions of professional, political, or economic influence.
One of the most potent examples of this sentiment, alluded to by Professor Benjamin, is the multiple vetoes by former U.S. Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield of UN Security Council resolutions demanding an "immediate ceasefire" in G*za.
Accusations flung in 2024 by the then head of US Africa Command (AFRICOM), General Michael E. Langley, at Burkina Faso's revolutionary President Ibrahim Traoré are another glaring example. Langley, just like former US President Barack Obama, who oversaw US military operations across the African continent, represents imperialist militarism that has torn many countries apart over the decades.
Faces and voices like theirs are used to advance imperialist interests and maintain systems of global exploitation, as well as the US military-industrial complex, all under the illusion of inclusion.
Somalia and Libya have already borne the brunt of US power. Today, Washington continues its aggression against Iran, the same year it kidnapped Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, a South American leader who dared to stand up against fascism and imperialism. This is another act of aggression, among other U.S. violations of international law, that has been met with utter silence from the Black neoliberal ruling class.
