Huge thanks to @improvserv for compiling the annual report into music tuition in Scotland’s Local Authority schools once again. It is heartwarming that so many young people in our schools wish to explore learning through music.
The cost of delivering instrumental music tuition rose over 10% in 2022-23 according to the latest national survey. Cost rises driven by increasing no of pupils and high inflation.

Great day at the @HIT_Scotland conference seeing colleagues, talking about #YMusicMatters. Some important questions were raised about how we make music education more accessible for all. I also loved this quote from @VFleischfresser ⬇️
Inspiring and uplifting keynote at @HIT_Scotland Conference this morning from @VFleischfresser “When you learn an instrument you gain another voice” #Inclusion #WhyMusicMatters #MusicEducation #MusicEd

A massive thank you to the Improvement Service for preparing our annual report.
🆕 We've just published our annual instrumental music services survey on behalf of @HIT_Scotland
The no of school pupils learning an instrument has rebounded to pre-Covid levels but it's still too early to assess the impact of removing tuition fees.
