Hard to see 1 April being hit even if decisions are taken in the next few days. As soon as the decision to create a new NHS quango is announced the rows about which functions should transfer into it will start, all whilst the Health Bill is in flight

And still the way NHS raises are distributed systematically discriminates against community, ambulance and mental health organisations, to the comparative advantage of hospitals. A shameful conceit. Perpetuated. With real world consequences: typical MH gap = an acute ward

The government’s youth inactivity adviser called Disability News Service’s editor a f***ing w**ker after being challenged about his failure to discuss the safeguarding risks involved in forcing tens of thousands of young disabled people into employment.

For those outside Scotland this is how free personal care (introduced by Labour/Lib Dems in 2002) works. It doesn’t cover by far the most expensive element of residential care, ie accommodation and living costs. I know of people paying upwards of £10,000 a month for their parent’s residential care costs.

Is it free care? Or free personal care? They're very different, as my colleague Natasha points out over at another place: nuffieldtrust.org.uk/news-it…

This is alarming: when Burnham was asked on LBC if his proposals included disabled children, he replied: “No. This is adult and particularly older people’s social care.”
So he is not really fixing social care for everyone...

JUST A FEW MINUTES AGO IT GOT OFFICIAL: INDIA GOT THE ROAD WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS IN 2032.
But it won’t be just about that one week. India plans to grow in cycling. The Pune Grand Tour already had over 2.5 million spectators along the route, and next year it is planned to upgrade from UCI 2.2 to 2.1. Six stages instead of five, no prologue, a total distance of roughly 950–1,099 km, scheduled for January 26–31, starting on Republic Day. Hundreds of kilometres of additional roads are also being rebuilt or upgraded, with reports of ₹700+ crore / around $80m+ in works. And in the future, they want to take it to ProSeries level, which is only one level below the WorldTour.
But it is not all. They are also creating the Cycling League of India (CLI / ICL). Separate from the UCI calendar, India is launching what it calls the world’s first franchise-based professional road cycling league in November 2026, with the first round planned in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, in mid-November. It is government-backed.
The format will have eight city/state franchises, with 10 riders per team: 2 internationals, 6 senior Indians and 2 juniors. There will be three phases of racing (criterium, team time trial and road race) in different regions, plus a grand finale. The league is meant to create paid domestic contracts, give juniors more exposure and attract foreign riders during the European off-season.
It will not be easy. Coaching, equipment and creating a cycling culture take years. But the meaning of giving India the Worlds is simple: India wants to grow cycling there.

A massive leak from the heart of Downing Street reveals how much Andy Burnham appears to have borrowed from Keir Starmer's plans since entering Number 10. I've obtained a 50 page bundle of presentations, strategy ideas and policy submissions drawn up in April in an attempt to keep Starmer in power. Here's what happened next.
