If you’re interested in fighting for good health and avoiding dementia, I put together a handout on some of the things we’re doing in our assisted living homes.

Over the Christmas Holidays a wonderful young lady (@ashliefromearth) and her husband came down from Portland, Oregon to film what we are doing at our assisted living homes. She put her autoimmune disease into remission with the carnivore diet and wants to help spread the word. Here is a teaser of what she is putting together. I am so grateful for people like her.
Please like and share this film she put together so others can know it's never too late to start healing.🧵
The new Alzheimer's drug lecanemab slowed decline 27% in an 18-month trial of 1,795 people. That's a 0.45-point difference on the main score.
Brain swelling (ARIA-E): 12.6% vs 1.7% on placebo.
Modest gain. Real risk. Ask hard questions.

NIH put 20 adults in a hospital for a month.
On an ultra-processed diet, they ate about 500 more calories a day and gained about 2 lbs in 2 weeks.
On a whole-food diet, they lost about 2 lbs.
Your grocery cart is a health decision.

Loneliness isn't just sad. It's dangerous. Especially in the elderly.
A review covering 3.4 million+ people found a 26% higher risk of early death with loneliness, 29% with social isolation, and 32% with living alone.
This hug is medicine. Call your parents. Visit. Show up.
Your parent is going into the hospital.
Here's what I'd watch for. Most families only learn this after something goes wrong.
5 things. A thread. 🧵
4. Meds.
Hospitals add drugs. Ask what each new one is for, how long it's needed, and what it interacts with.
The AGS Beers Criteria flags drugs that carry extra risk after 65.
Don't stop anything on your own. Ask.

Occasionally we make some treats for our assisted living residents because many of them have a tough time being strict.
The treats are usually a big hit.
This picture is from several years ago with one of my favorite caregivers at our assisted living homes.
It's amazing how many documents the Department of Health wants us to put on the wall.
It's nice to not have to put the old food pyramid up any more.
What "lifestyle first" means to me:
- Morning sun and fresh air
- Real food, with protein at every meal
- Daily movement, even a hallway walk
- People around the table
It's not anti-medicine. It's asking whether food, movement, light and company can help before adding another pill, with the doctor in the loop.
I'm curious. If you're on a carnivore diet, have you notice the number of times you have cold or flu symptoms has decreased? I can think of only one time I had the sniffles since I had Covid in 2021 just before I started going carnivore.
I've talked to some carnivore friends and all of them say their colds have decreased to practically nothing. What say you?
High blood pressure is one of the most common chronic conditions in older adults.
And a big 2025 trial just added to the evidence that treating it may protect the brain too. A thread from someone who runs assisted living homes. 🧵
Takeaway: blood pressure is something you can measure, track and change.
If you or a parent hasn’t had it checked recently, that’s a simple first step. Bring the numbers to the doctor.
Not medical advice.
