Hey there, my amazing friends! 🌟 I just had to share this incredible story of an unlikely relationship that has truly changed my life. It all started back in third grade when I walked into my new classroom and met my teacher, Mrs. Kalman. Let me tell you, I had so many misconceptions about her! 😅 You see, Mrs. Kalman looked like she had it all - she seemed rich, while I came from a humble background. She was white, and I am black. She identified as Jewish, and I am Christian. I thought to myself, “We have nothing in common!” And to top it off, my name is “Adolph” - talk about an icebreaker! 😂 But guess what? This unexpected pairing turned out to be one of the best educational experiences of my life! Mrs. Kalman and I became dear friends, and together, we’re on a mission to show teachers what true relationships look like. We’re breaking stereotypes and proving that differences can bring us closer. Mrs. Kalman even came out of retirement as a former principal to provide homebound instruction to my young daughter after her surgery related to her diagnosis of cerebral palsy. Can you believe it? Talk about going above and beyond! 💪 Now, Susan (aka Mrs. Kalman) and I are inseparable. We talk regularly, have lunch to bounce ideas off each other, and I even consider her my “consigliere” - my trusted advisor! 🤣 As Dr. James Comer once said, “no significant learning occurs without a significant relationship.” And in the words of Dr. Adolph Brown, III (yours truly), “you have to reach them, to teach them!” Let’s continue to champion public education and foster these amazing connections that can change lives. Remember, my friends, sometimes the most unexpected bonds can lead to the most extraordinary adventures.
