It is dumb because there is already a shift to running AI on home computers.
Sam Altman is actually right about this, and most people are missing the bigger picture.
Think about how much RAM sits unused in hundreds of millions of personal computers every single day. People buy machines with 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB of RAM, yet most of that capacity is barely utilized for much of the day.
Meanwhile, AI research, scientific computing, and cloud infrastructure are competing for the same limited global supply of memory.
From an economic perspective, this is an incredibly inefficient allocation of resources.
In a data center, memory can be pooled, shared, and continuously utilized by thousands of workloads. Instead of expensive hardware sitting idle for most of its lifespan, that same capacity can support services used by millions of people.
Higher utilization means more computing output from the same physical resources, potentially lower costs per workload, and less pressure to manufacture additional hardware.
This doesn't mean everyone should give up owning a computer. Local computing still matters for privacy, independence, latency, and offline access.
But the fundamental principle is correct: maximizing individual ownership of scarce hardware isn't necessarily the same thing as maximizing its usefulness to society.
The future of computing isn't just about who owns the most powerful hardware. It's about how efficiently we use the hardware humanity already has.

This is a must-read, from a man who defected from the Communist bloc to the USA 40 years ago. "What worries me the most is not Trump himself or those who do his bidding, but rather the willingness of so many ordinary citizens to look away."

Ron White: Eight of Ken Paxton’s assistants turned him into the FBI for fraud... They sued and won $6 million. Guess who paid that $6 million? You and me paid the $6 million for his bribery. His own party impeached him. He’s a criminal.
Rogan: They're surprised that Talarico is ahead of him in the polls.
White: I’m not. I think that people are sick of what's going on right now in Texas. They've been in control for 30 years. What have they given us? Let somebody else drive.

A lack of spare parts for aircraft due to sanctions was a serious problem for Russia. Trump rushes to Putin’s rescue yet again, while Russia concedes nothing and continues to murder Ukrainian civilians.
The United States has lifted restrictions on the Boeing Corporation’s engagement with the Belarusian national airline, Belavia -Igor Cherginets, Director General of Belavia, as reported by the news agency BelTA.
The U.S. Department of Commerce has granted Boeing authorization to work with the Belarusian airline. "This will allow Belavia to directly obtain spare parts, components, and software for the aircraft currently in its fleet. Furthermore, it paves the way for negotiations regarding the direct acquisition of aircraft from Boeing. It is worth noting that a similar authorization had previously been issued by the U.S. Department of the Treasury, which provided the technical framework for direct cooperation between Belavia and Boeing. A year ago, the U.S. government issued an authorization that removed all sanctions—specifically political sanctions—against Belavia," the airline’s Director General stated.

This is weak.
Kinzinger risked his career to support the constitution and his love of country over love of a political party.
You ignore McConnell selling out our country for personal political power instead of doing what was right after January 6th.
Folks like Kinzinger make it harder for Republican politicians to stand up to MAGA because they will instantly get smeared as taking his path of full blown TDS.
So, folks who cheer Kinzinger should understand he chose relevance over providing a principled dissent that other Republicans could actually follow without decimating their careers.
Instead of trailblazing, he chose scorched earth.

Seriously though, this all about about Haley Stevens making this race all about her because she is so special of course it has to be about her and how dare you little people think its about the candidates she was rejected for
Believe what she is telling you about herself here.
4th and 1 is not a huge risk. And Arizona got 0 points out of it.
🚨THIS IS INSANE🚨
#COWBOYS HC BRIAN SCHOTTENHEIMER WENT FOR IT ON FOURTH-AND-ONE FROM HIS OWN 30-YARD LINE AND GOT STUFFED.
WHAT AN ABSOLUTE DISASTER FOR DALLAS DEEP IN THEIR OWN TERRITORY.
MOST RIDICULOUS DECISION YOU WILL EVER SEE.
To me, it comes down to math. One senator isn't going to magically evaporate our support for Israel (last aide vote was 82-15). But it could be enough for the Senate to start acting like the God-damned Senate and blocking the White House's insanity and law-breaking.
So, about El Sayed. There are things I have major issues with: the Hasan Piker connection, the very feeble disavowal of Cenk's "Israel ate your bananas" ad, the "hurt people" remark etc. That said:
~ Islamist family connection seems spurious michiganpublic.org/politics-…
~ Muslim Brotherhood tie apparently refers to his activity as a student in the campus Muslim Students' Association, which was founded by MB figures in 1963 but apparently hasn't had such links in decades. To suggest that anyone involved with the MSA as a student is suspect seems awfully close to targeting Muslims as a group
~ The claim that el Sayed signing a pro-Morsi letter urging a purge of Mubarak holdovers from gov't makes him an MB sympathizer is also pretty iffy. Mubarak was an overthrown dictator. Morsi, whatever one thinks of him, was an elected leader.
I'm not saying you should vote for AES no matter what, because Trump. But I think critiques need to be factual

HBO slowly figuring out that everyone already has the movies on DVD.
HBO is reportedly in panic mode over its upcoming ‘HARRY POTTER’ series, with insiders claiming the network may be running out of ideas to keep audiences invested.
One insider stated that the series “will struggle to stand out from the original films”, with growing concerns that audiences may be reluctant to embrace another retelling of the iconic franchise.
HBO is reportedly under growing pressure to get the series right ahead of its December 25 premiere.

Why does Cenk have such a big platform? I’m genuinely at a loss as to what he contributes to society besides rage and stupidity.
If you're black, I have the easiest Halloween costume for you. Wrap an Israeli flag around you, and just start calling everyone you see an antisemite. Voila, you're @VanJones68.
There’s a shoe that has to drop here: what she was offered by the GOP in exchange for the endorsement.
As I report here ...
- Stevens told numerous high profile Dems last night she was voting for AES
- staff was literally waiting at the unity rally thinking she was about to arrive
- even key Dems who are similarly skeptical of AES are baffled and aghast

The riots in France are our future, BTW. Not because of immigrants or Muslims or whatever. But because our political system is screwing over young people even harder than Europe’s. We’re just earlier in the process.

I spoke with Haley Stevens yesterday.
Feeling a bit absurd in pointing out the obvious and being far kinder than I should have been, I reminded her that the outcome of this senate race will be viewed in the light of a future Supreme Court vacancy, and I expressed a hope that all of us understand the stakes.
She assured me she's supporting Dr. El-Sayed, sent me a video of a recent speech she gave blasting Mike Rogers and said this: "Still stands. I promise."
She also said she's been sending this video to other folks to make it clear where she stands on this race.
Again: that was yesterday.
I have known Haley Stevens for years. I have counted her as a friend and an ally. We've had many thoughtful conversations about this country, and she has never failed to remind me that her mother is a fan of my writing.
Whatever other political differences we have, she has always made it clear to me she would stand with LGBTQ people. It was a red line she refused to cross.
Instead, she has made the inexplicable decision to endorse a man who views LGBTQ Americans as second-class citizens unworthy of full equality.
I can't help but wonder what her mother must be thinking right now.
I have no idea what has happened to the person I thought I knew, but clearly, she has completely taken leave of her senses in endorsing a Republican who is little more than a Trump sycophant -- less than 24 hours after promising me that she has not wavered from the bigger picture.
I am disgusted with her cynicism and cowardice in this moment. God forgive me for trusting her.
If you're a Michigan voter and as disgusted as I am, get to your polling place and vote for Dr. El-Sayed.
This isn’t principle. This is being a sore loser. Slowing down Trump’s abuses is an all hands on deck moment and Stevens is kicking holes in the ship out of petulance.
There's something seriously wrong when the President can sue a bunch of people over a completely true story and it takes more than a year and God knows how much money to dismiss it.
