Some of our favourite musicians coming together. Wishing @ThomasGouldVLN & @GwilymSimcock all the best on this collaboration.
I’m looking forward to playing @wiltshiremusic both live and online this Friday with @ThomasGouldVLN. We’ll be exploring the similarities between Baroque and jazz, culminating in a performance of Corelli’s famous La Follia Variations. 🎟️ → buff.ly/3lL39Ei

Mieczyslaw Horszowski b otd 1892! I remember the first notes he played at @wigmore_hall (Bach/Liszt) - they took us back a century. Inexplicable how pianists' sounds differ so utterly; as Olli Mustonen says, it's a question of creating magic. And that Horszowski certainly did...

"Kind words do not cost much. Yet they accomplish much."
"Small minds are concerned with the extraordinary, great minds with the ordinary."

Weber's Der Freischutz premiered otd 200 years ago! Such a magical work - a strong influence on Schumann, Wagner, etc. I love the story of Beethoven meeting Weber. 'You're the very devil of a fellow,' he said, chuckling, embracing Weber and plying him with copious amounts of wine

Stravinsky b otd 1882! He dragged music, kicking and screaming, into a new era, with the most famously scandalous premiere (the Rite) in history. Thereafter, the twists and turns of his artistic development are endlessly fascinating - and quite unlike those of any other composer.
