ALT This period is an opportunity for families, friends and congregations to come together, to reflect and to celebrate. Sadly we know that for many in London’s Jewish communities, the events of the past year mean they are also times when fears about safety and security are heightened. Since October 7 2023 we have seen a concerning increase in antisemitic hate crime, as well as the ever-present threat from extremism or terrorism. Officers have been working closely with community members and key partners, including the Community Security Trust. As we approach this significant period in the Jewish calendar, we will be stepping up that work. Officers will be visiting synagogues and prominent community venues to better understand concerns and to explain the measures being taken. They will be on patrol in greater numbers in key areas – both in uniform and in plainclothes – not only to reassure but to be a visible deterrent.
