#5 - Another thing to keep mind as the VHSL Football Playoffs get underway next week is that there are sure to be several first round re-matches of regular season games.
Just because Team A beat Team B easily by double-figures in September or October does not mean that result will be the same come November.
Can almost guarantee at least one - if not two, three, maybe even four - outcomes changing. #BOOKIT
#4 - Not to rain on the playoff parade, but Round 1 will likely be full of more yawns than spine-tingling finishes. History and data shows us that, given only seven of the 86 matchups in 2025 were decided by 7 points or less. There were 37 running clock margins, meaning victories by 35+ points.
So are we depressed about it? No, because Round 2 will come before you know it, and that's where we often separate the contenders from the pretenders with much more drama.
Simply enjoy the ride and savor the moment(s).
#3 - What region has me most intrigued of the 24? It's a close call, but I'll narrowly go 4D over 6B.
Stanford Lipscomb (@Fatztakeover) of GW-Danville earned my respect tonight in a rout of previously unbeaten Magna Vista. Meanwhile, Jefferson Forest (@JFFootballCavs) keeps thumping Seminole District squads with pedigrees.
Oh by the way, Sherando went 10-0, while Salem and James Wood are also 9-1 in that region.
A GAUNTLET just to reach December in Class 4!
#2 - We'll close out the regular season, by my count, with 14 undefeated VHSL football teams for 2026. That's two more than we had a year ago entering the playoffs.
Most improbable of the group to me? Look no further than the Central-Lunenburg Chargers, the lone unbeaten in Class 2.
Coach Will Thomas and his staff have done it again - - a third unbeaten regular season in five years, despite returning just six total starters (3 on each side of the ball) and breaking in a brand new o-line.
Say what you want about their schedule and level of competition they've faced, but 10-0 isn't easy and another job well done by them. #HatsOFF
#1 - This 2026 campaign has been one of the strangest from a weather perspective with heat/humidity in August into September, then lots of rain/storms to play havoc with the schedule, temp rises and drops throughout October, only to bring us the FOG BOWL in Chesterfield County ...
That's where Huguenot outlasted Manchester in the Game of the Night, 19-14, with 4 TD's scored in the final 3:25.
Both are LIVE No. 3 seeds - Manchester in 6A and Huguenot in 4B - where there are undefeated teams and defending State Champs.
We've moved into November and that means the PLAYOFFS are coming up next week!
