A sad day for students i #HISD. A veteran teacher with 20 years of teaching experience gone. This will NOT stop until Mike Miles is gone.

Things don’t just happen, says @garlin. You can’t be afraid to do and try hard things. That is an empowering truth. A different set of people, who are more empowered, inclusive and informed can make different choices that ultimately have better outcomes. #civitas2024

Michigan became a beacon & blueprint for the country for its work in addressing racial disparities during the COVID-19 pandemic, virtually flattening disparity rates in only 9 months, says @garlin. Even when things are hard, you can make progress by trying. #Civitas2024

Legal protection against domestic violence has only become widespread in recent years— This chart shows the share of the global population living in countries that criminally sanction domestic violence or provide protection against it. The data comes from the World Bank’s Women, Business and the Law project. Throughout the decades, the legislation on domestic violence has increased markedly. Until the 1990s, less than 1% of the global population in countries was legally protected from domestic violence, with only Canada, Sweden, and Ireland providing such safeguards. And as recently as 20 years ago, 80% of people lived in countries without legal penalties for domestic violence. But by 2023, this had more than reversed, and 9 in 10 people lived in countries with legal measures to combat domestic violence. This shift highlights an increased recognition around the world that domestic violence is common, especially against women. (This Daily Data Insight was written by Veronika Samborska and @bbherre.)

Mike Miles can no longer say it's ONLY the few people at the #HISD board meetings that are naysayers. We have over 4,000 and counting people who want him gone! If you want him removed from HISD, sign the petition change.org/p/remove-floyd-mi…

This is the culture that Mike Miles has brought to HISD. This teacher has suffered a heart attack and is in the hospital, but is worried about being fired because the teacher is missing days because of the heart attack. The policy is inhumane and illegal.
