This #WorldFoodDay, we are looking at how innovation can help smallholder farmers produce food, protect their livelihood, and build a more resilient food system.
Through a first of its kind pilot in Odisha, Heifer International in India, with support from the Weather Risk Management Services, used parametric insurance to provide a safety net for women backyard poultry farmers against climate risks. When predefined weather thresholds are crossed, the payouts are automatically triggered, helping faster support without lengthy claim processes.
